Amerie - 1 Thing

was 'man up' on the american version of the album? it's listed as a bonus track on my copy and is probably my favourite non-single.

Also, I am amazed that I'm not annoyed by the breathy spoken part near the end of the song. It could have been just some sex kitten sort of thing, but it comes off more like there's really a subject behind it, with an inner life.

It's better in some ways...

All the obvious reasons as to why it couldn't possibly be as jaw-droppingly revelatory as "1 Thing" (Cool & Dre instead of Rich Harrison, CM instead of Amerie, Jeezy instead of blissful silence) absolutely apply, but it's been my go-to track when I want to hear a sample set ablaze like a Viking funeral ship.

Tha Rayne's "Didn't Ya Know" is fabulous too.

Young Leek got signed last year after having that one song out for like a month, so people around here are pretty mad about it. but the producer of that track, Blaq Starr, has done a ton of Baltimore club hits.

Basically, it sounds kinda like "1 Thing", but less minimal and less good, but you probably already guessed that. Of course, there's a lot of room between "1 Thing" and "bad", and this falls somewhere in there. Rich Harrison is Rich Harrison, (or someone else is Rich Harrison, that's been happening a lot lately) big horns, extraneous percussion, etc. I like the dark surf guitar and the use of the male background vocals. (That whole pre-chorus section is a nice build.) Amerie's singing is more soul shouter-ly than usual (which in my book is a plus, though I realize a lot of ILMers don't like soul shouters, but boo to them). The best moment is at the begining of the second verse. "I gotta tell you how much I love it/ When you kiss my neck in public/ I try my best not to blush" and totally sings that last line with a blush. The song needs more a hook though.

"Rolling Down My Face" rips off Limp Bizkit lolololol

Love it... I nominated / voted for the double EP in the albums poll (think it was my #2!); but I don't expect to see it place, due to apparent lack of interest here.
