I'm glad Jordan bought it to my attention that their was a neo-soul type thread on ilxor.
Here were the videos I posted on a previous newish thread which basically covered the same subject. I hope people won't mind the reposting of videos. In the last post I mentioned to the user of proto neo-soul and put in three videos of those artists critics claimed actually started neo-soul rather than Erykah Badu and D'Angelo. I feel like these artists were far more edgier than the "first wave." I also spoke on the limited access of finding new neo-soul music. In the US we ahve TV 1 and Centric but you have to pay for those channels. There is also a website called soulbounce.com but they are very pretentious and think mainstream r&b sucks. I would only go there for the music suggestions and not their writing because it is really bad.
Here are the videos I mentioned:
Me'Shell NdgeOcello - If That's Your Boyfriendhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UpdzEpGIqtY
Groove Theory - Tell Mehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THtqUDitQ4I&ob=av2e
Joi - Sunshine and the Rain (very rare video that recently surfaced)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z7FIfpdNEuY
I gave this video as transition from "proto-" to "first wave":
D'Angelo - Lady (remix)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=myXWAJi55v0&NR=1

ahu is a turkish singer based in london who does a lot of stuff with sideways hip-hop producers like mr beatnick, soundspecies - i love her voice, it's so smoky

suspect this one's going to be big - posted it last week on the uk urban pop thread but it fits better here. i think it's co-produced by burial. jamie woon is great, he was also on subeena's "solidify" last year...

this is cool, dude is Erykah Badu's bassist on the New Amerykah albums!:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8nuH6SKtNU
would rather it didn't have the SUPER LO-FI production, though.. reminds me of Cody ChestnuTT. Apparently his whole album will be produced by Flying Lotus (!!!) so definitely one to look out for.
Also, don't know if this was posted but it's dope:

Yeah you did Lex, I remember.
I think I like her in classicist breezy mode more than in #based mode which seems to be her more common m.o. though she's pretty good either way.
― Tim F, Saturday, 4 June 2011 07:10 (twelve years ago) link
yeah i agree - best things i've heard by her are her guest vocals on shafiq husayn's "lil girl" and scratcha dva's "just vybe", where she can really get her teeth into a song that stands up

Last track is Italo post-punk, though -- something you could play between the Cure and Klein & MBO.
Whole thing is excellent.

Regarding Thundercat:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dk_RfQmV1Zg
This opens the album and it's obviously covered later on, as linked above.
A lot of Flying Lotus fans are going to think the album is garbage, but anything that uses MPS-era George Duke, Jan Hammer Group's Melodies, and Todd Rundgren as touchstones is OK in my book.
