El Guincho - "Alegranza" (Panda Bear who?)

yeah I sorta don't understand Pfork turning on this guy ... oh the fickle ways of music journos

This new album is... strange. I'm not too sure of the references, but this has more in common with African Highlife, Zouk and Shaangaan than the slam'n'jam Iberia-in-Ibiza stuff from the first one. It's worryingly close to "World" music (the dubious kind). That said I've only listened once, and should check it out again.

i really love this album. maybe because those "world music" signifiers are more immediately pleasurable to me, but this is pretty much great summer pop music.

saw him play abt two weeks ago, the sound was so so bad that ppl left in droves, sad as was really looking forward to the show, heard the new album is fun but not heard it yet

finally got to hear the new record and it is an easy top ten for the year. the whole thing keeps delivering all the way through.
