Everything about this show is so pitch-perfect right now.

I just watched the season premier and directly afterwards found myself here as a result of getting high. I think I'm going to like this place. Can somebody tell me how it works?

john.shepherd, Friday, 24 September 2010 09:29 (thirteen years ago) link

Fantastic start to the season, loved it all but I laughed hardest at the Abed/Sherley exchange about "meta" and him wishing all the adventures could all be more like paintball.

http://www.viceland.com/blogs/en/2010/09/23/donald-glover-likes-to-shit-on-peoples-faces/

In other words, you’re not Joaquin Phoenix.
No, no, I’m not Joaquin Phoenix. I was told that somebody shit on somebody’s face in that movie. I’m not going to do that.

I just saw that movie last weekend, and yeah, that was an alarming part to see.
I’m not gonna do that on camera.

If you do that, we won’t hear about it.
Well, unless she tells somebody.

Oh, it’s a woman who’s getting her face shit on?
Is it not a woman in the movie?

No, it’s actually Joaquin who gets shit on.
Look, all I’m saying is that to be aroused, I need to shit on someone’s face, usually a woman. That’s all I’m saying. Will that make it in?

Yes, we’ll make the headline: “Donald Glover Likes to Shit on People’s Faces.”
The only way Donald Glover can cum.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 24 September 2010 15:16 (thirteen years ago) link

ratings stayed the same (i.e. abysmal).

boo.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 24 September 2010 15:18 (thirteen years ago) link

At least they didn't get worse? I was worried about Big Bang Theory taking away a part of the audience.

(¬_¬) (Nicole), Friday, 24 September 2010 15:19 (thirteen years ago) link

I'm going to be so sad when this show gets cancelled.

I think if Community were to get canned by NBC (which, who knows...they'd be dumb enough to do it), it's got the kind of fanbase that would get it picked up by Comedy Central or TBS.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 24 September 2010 15:20 (thirteen years ago) link

I hope so, but I have my doubts. It's probably going to be like Arrested Development all over again.

(¬_¬) (Nicole), Friday, 24 September 2010 15:20 (thirteen years ago) link

Too expensive for cable, I'll bet. Either way, with Outsourced doing very well it looks like Community is first in line to get the chop to make way for Parks and Rec. It's all so cruel.

No Good, Scrunty-Looking, Narf Herder (Gukbe), Friday, 24 September 2010 15:22 (thirteen years ago) link

I wonder how much that has to do with NBC promoing the shit out of Outsourced all summer. Here's hoping the ratings for that show nosedive in the coming weeks.

IT DID WELL? xp

(¬_¬) (Nicole), Friday, 24 September 2010 15:25 (thirteen years ago) link

NBC probably loves backlash at this point, so they'd probably keep it on the air just to spite people who don't like it (Outsourced, that is).

Johnny Fever, Friday, 24 September 2010 15:27 (thirteen years ago) link

Community had about 5 million viewers, Outsourced had a 8 million.

Also, Shit My Dad Says gave 30 Rock a hell of a beating.

No Good, Scrunty-Looking, Narf Herder (Gukbe), Friday, 24 September 2010 15:28 (thirteen years ago) link

Ugh.

(¬_¬) (Nicole), Friday, 24 September 2010 15:28 (thirteen years ago) link

Yeah, but Shit My Dad Says got pretty universally panned by critics beforehand and by tv watchers on twitter after its premiere. I bet the second week numbers are considerably less.

I didn't see it, so I don't know how bad it actually is.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 24 September 2010 15:29 (thirteen years ago) link

Its only the first week, I'm not going to worry about those numbers too much just yet. Lets see what October brings.

Outsourced had the benefit of The Office being a lead-in. Where are the numbers for how many of those 8 million people tuned out before the half hour was up?

Really really really hate The League

funky house skeptic (polyphonic), Saturday, 25 September 2010 00:58 (thirteen years ago) link

from what i can tell via twitter, community folx were pleased with the ratings -- everyone was expecting a big drop due to Big Bang Theory, but in reality they were slightly higher than the ratings they were getting last season at 8:00. it's folly to compare community/30 rock ratings to the office/outsourced ratings, because people are still watching the office in large numbers for some reason.

also people were worried about My Generation potentially being big competition, but i heard it did pretty badly.

it sucks and you all love something that sucks (reddening), Saturday, 25 September 2010 00:58 (thirteen years ago) link

lol The League is kinda a joy for me but maybe only bc I'm into fantasy football.

Mordy, Saturday, 25 September 2010 01:14 (thirteen years ago) link

Community numbers were level with last season, so yeah, the lack of drop-off is a good sign. Still, it was a bit of a shock that it was renewed in the first place, so with no improvements I worry how they'll handle it. I don't know what effect Zucker's exit will have.

No Good, Scrunty-Looking, Narf Herder (Gukbe), Saturday, 25 September 2010 01:35 (thirteen years ago) link

I'm sure I'm not the only one, and I think the show is great on its own merits, but half the reason I love it so much is because all the cast members are on twitter all day long acting just like friends I have in real life. I've even had Donald and Gillian respond to things I've written to them directly, which seems inconceivable for any other show/cast currently on tv. c0rNy, sure, but when Thursday rolls around, I feel extra motivated while watching.

sorry. I love Community and I am not at all sick of Senor Chang even though I know in my rational mind that I should be and Donald Glover in the Spidey pjs made my heart hurt because he would have been great casting

We’ve heard about a Claymation Christmas episode. Will that be the topper to last season’s paintball episode?

I think just in terms of the whole outlook in the season, the ante has been upped. It’s not just about having huge fantastical episodes, which there are, but in general I think the whole nature of the show and how silly we can get is being pushed more and more. The Apollo 13 episode — where we kind of go to space, so to speak — that’s going to be one of the more ambitious episodes that we’re all sort of hoping will have a similar if not better feel to the paintball episode. And the Halloween episode, which we just finished, is scaled up. It’s definitely a full-on horror-movie episode and really well done.

Astronaut Mike Dexter (Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved), Friday, 1 October 2010 20:36 (thirteen years ago) link

I think I prefer the less out-there episodes. I was disappointed to read that interview with the creator guy where he said they were going to try to make more paintball and chicken fingers type episodes. Chicken fingers was by far my least favorite episode from season 1. I don't think it's possible to ever, ever get good comedy out of mafia spoofs (esp. Goodfellas) again!
