it was so nice to have banaka back, i welcomed them

The Reverend, Friday, 17 September 2010 09:06 (thirteen years ago) link

Troll with an amusing schtick drops schtick, realises that they are actually kinda boring and nondescript without it, picks up schtick again. Hilarity results.

Karen D. Tregaskin, Friday, 17 September 2010 09:09 (thirteen years ago) link

Hilarity will not be the result when we obtain power.

banaka, Friday, 17 September 2010 09:17 (thirteen years ago) link

illiterate mods are killing ilx (darraghmac), Friday, 17 September 2010 09:40 (thirteen years ago) link

banaka you're aware that your narrative reads as follows:

a. dude in crisis is recruited by a cult-like org & told to disseminate propaganda via the internet
b. dude registers to ilx, follows orders
c. dude has crisis, renounces schtick
d. cult-like org obtains dude's login & password - this is after he's lost interest in cult-like org -- and begins posting under dude's screenname, sounding remarkably like dude sounded when he was doing his "job"

it's an ok story I just want to keep you straight on it

That sequence of events is correct.

banaka, Friday, 17 September 2010 09:53 (thirteen years ago) link

do u support the banning of noted poster kelpolaris?

Chinedu "Edu" Obasi Ogbuke (nakhchivan), Friday, 17 September 2010 09:55 (thirteen years ago) link

tbh banaka's a more creative sock than usual and should be supported fully in developing the next great christopher nolan script using ilx as sounding board

illiterate mods are killing ilx (darraghmac), Friday, 17 September 2010 09:57 (thirteen years ago) link

x-post

The elimination of those whose contributions are no longer useful is a matter of policy for us, but we are not familiar enough with this kelpolaris to make any judgment. However, if they are promoting an agenda that is not in accord with ours, they should of course be swiftly banned and hunted down.

"Hey man, it's Dave from that cult you were trying to be with last week -- hope you're doing well. Listen, we were hoping to build on that message board thing you were doing. Could we get your login & pass?"
"What? Oh yeah, sure thing. It's ban✧✧✧@easyn✧✧✧.c✧✧ and the pass is 'w1lbur'sallr1ght' with ones for the i's."
"Ha, ok, what--"
"Charlotte's Web thing, my favorite book when I was a kid,"
"Oh cool! Well listen, if you ever want to get back into things, I just wanted you to know there's always a place for you in our cult."
"I appreciate that Dave. I'm more into reiki right now though. Clearing some major blockages."
"Fair enough! Talk to you soon."
"Later days, Banaka."

banaka's silence speaks volumes

harbl madness (latebloomer), Thursday, 23 September 2010 05:19 (thirteen years ago) link

None of these are appealing to us in any aesthetic, philosophical, political, or practical way.

banaka, Thursday, 23 September 2010 07:25 (thirteen years ago) link

Starting with the top left image:

1. Romanticization of Nature is to be avoided.
2. Thumbs down. The celebration of feudalism, monarchies or other obsolete modes of existence is despicable.
3. This is the only one we approve of in any way, but it is still not desirable.
4. We do not condone bandanas, rubber gloves are acceptable however. Very acceptable.
5. See number 1.
6. Frilly, decorative, useless.
7. Our distaste for this religious imagery is well understood by now.
8. A failed attempt at eliciting a visceral "gag" response. Reactionary.
9. No.

banaka, Thursday, 23 September 2010 07:39 (thirteen years ago) link

What are the ways in which the 'aesthetic' is not a comfort of the kind which you oppose diametrically in your vision of the future?

banaka, where is it appropriate to find beauty?

beej (crüt), Thursday, 23 September 2010 09:10 (thirteen years ago) link

Beauty is in that which serves the needs of the collective and establishment of the New Society. All of our value judgments reflect this.

banaka, Thursday, 23 September 2010 12:31 (thirteen years ago) link

Ah, beauty in the efficiency of one undisputed truth. 's a good one, that one.

banaka, do you feel that there is any human work, be it technical, literary, or artistic that I may be able to study or experience that will make me understand your ways better?

I'm starting to lose interest in humanity.

three months pass...

http://lareviewofbooks.org/article.php?type=&id=1581&fulltext=1

As robotic technology develops and insinuates itself further into everyday life, what counts as a robot is becoming more slippery, drifting further away from the C-3POs and the Twikis and the other box-of-bolts robot buddies of science fiction. Should we see robots simply as useful machines? Is a garage-door opener a robot? Do they have to be self-propelling? (A Roomba seems far more robotic than a laptop, but a laptop is far more useful.) Must a robot think “for itself,” as if it actually has a “self”? Do they even have to be machines at all? Are RFID sensors robots? Are networks? Do I become a robot when I use my smartphone? When some asshole puts on Google Glass and looks at me on the street, do we both become robots?
