"pimple zoo" - pretty much a rock opera with multiple sections in 42 seconds.

i did suggest in the opening post that songs discussed be under one minute, but I actually would be interested to know what people interpret as "time-efficient" in terms of song structure and harmonic content without limiting it to a very specific number of seconds. for instance, i don't know many bands like GBV that have either the chutzpah or the compositional chops to cycle through a sort of verse-bridge-chorus structure without repeating anything. this durchkomponiert approach is pretty uncommon in pop music.

to clarify: when i say "pop music" i mean that as opposed to "classical," or "traditional," i.e. folk songs or lieder

Favorite short GBV song - "The Ascended Master's Grog Shop", 50 something seconds i think but a lot of it is dramatic silence

aog208 you're right about their restraint in regards to repetition. Its probably the most revolutionary part about them musically. It probably has something to do with them building many of their songs over recycled jam sessions, so they just work with what is there.
