Forget it. There are posts in this very thread alluding to the visibility of IP addresses of posters for those tech-savvy enough to find them. I'll be vague and say that I have more live recordings than studio albums in my collection, so if that's not really what's in demand on Oink, fine. If you want artist names, it's gotta be on a secure server.

By the way, by "live recordings" I do not mean "Dead shows". Or phuckin' Fish.

2) Rockism is the idea of popular music criticism. It is based on the idea that, at one time, music was perfect. I believe this time to be in the late 60s to late 70s. Today's music is mostly compromised by a blend of producers, writers, composers, etc. Some say the most important instrument in music today is the computer (synthesized music). I believe mostly in Rockism, as I do believe a true musician is on that can express their feelings and emotions into a symphony. The epitome of a golden age band (in my opinion) would be the Beatles, as their lyrics were as amazing as their instrumentals. I do know many talented "musicians" that do not play an instrument at all, but rather string out a series of beats onto a computer screen, and this goes against the idea of Rockism. Rockism is the prime example of how music should be.

3) Cat Power

4) I cannot answer this question honestly, as I have not listened to enough music by each of the artists. I'm sorry.

2) As an evaluation of previous responses and from wikipedia as the main citation source I can conclude that Rockism appears to be the foundation structure of rock music, the core instruments of guitars bass and drums and not straying from this. There isn't a specific aural/choral structure that can explicitly define rockism though naturaly the verse chorus verse solo climax chrous structure would have to be the most common. Rockism is a style of music that can be defined by the stripping down to these base instruments with a minimum of external interference, it's possible to believe that the primal tribalism of the early grateful dead in the merry prankster era would be where this style would be rooted.

3) http://www.richardavedon.com/editorial2004/newyorker/catpower.php

4) Hell yeah i like Sufijan Stevens though as my love of music is rooted in the Pavement style, I have to say Deerhoof. I want music that surprises me constantly, as much as i do like a bit of harmony, the right amount of noise goes soooo much further when handled correctly. Stevens appears to have an entire orchestra at his beck and call which can be complex to arrange for though there's nothing quite like that unexpected climatic burst of ... well... noise. Made me think and aim higher as a musician.

5) just the one thank you.

2) What is rockism? (answer in paragraph format, eight sentence minimum)

Overall, "rockism" is a term used to describe all that is authentic or genuine about rock music. It champions artists who spend years touring small rock clubs and make their music with sincere devotion to self-expression. Also important is a lack or commercial influence or a desire to make money.

Critics of rockism will argue that it is full of contradictions. For example, rockism could mean loving The Strokes for their scruffy look, hating them for being "image-conscious poseurs", or not being interested in them all together because music is no longer as good as it used to be.

However, proponents of rockism are not without reason to support such a mantra. While Ashlee Simpson was marketed as a rock act, she was caught lip-synching on Saturday Night Live. Further, more and more artists are using digital tone correction to ensure that recorded vocals are "perfect" when recorded for an album. The greatest visual artists in our history never used stencils for their works, and the greatest sound artists shouldn't have to either.

4) Which artist is better, Sufjan Stevens or Deerhoof? Why? (answer in paragraph format, eight sentence minimum)

To be honest, I had to download the new Deerhoof album to write intelligently on this one, and would have to say Deerhoof is better based on variety of material and fun-factor.

I have tried many times to get into Sufjan Stevens' "Come on feel the illinoise!" album, and found every time that: 1. there was no one song that I _really_ liked, and 2. All the songs sorted of blended into one another. While listening to the Deerhoof album, I found that the songs flow together nicely (e.g. they're not trying to do a hip-hop song followed by a metal song) yet each song still has its own personality.

Further, I find that Deerhoof is a lot more fun to listen to. While Sufjan Stevens might be nice playing in the background of a local coffeeshop, I would actually choose to listen to Deerhoof while in my car, at work, etc.

5) How many invites do you require?

Just one, thanks!

Rockism was/is a phrase that was used extensively by NME journalists in the mid to late eighties . Always ready to jump on a bandwagon …or saddle up the horses to make their own. 2.

3. http://www.alwaysontherun.net/catpower4.jpg

5. En inbjudan:)

2) Rockism is whatever Kelefa Sanneh says it is. Rockism is not a silly subject; it is very serious. Rockism is whichever Jessica Hopper says it is. Rockism is not necessarily the opposite of Discoism. Rockism is whenever Ann Powers says it is. When Rockism wins, all of us lose. Rockism is wherever Simon Reynolds says it is. Rockism is as rockism does.
3) http://www.neatorama.com/images/2006-02/cat-piano.jpg
4) Sufjan is talented, for sure. But the dude works so hard to appear as if he just stepped out of a Wes Anderson flick it’s very tough to take him seriously. I kind of like that he’s a sort-of-Christian “rocker” who wrote a song about John Wayne Gacy that invites the listener to think of him as a human being. But fuck Gacy -- and fuck clowns! Deerhoof music bothers me in large doses but in small ones, it can be pretty amazing. I like that the group works within a framework (spazzy off-kilter math-punk) that seemed all but exhausted but isn’t the way they do it, somehow. And it’s not even so much ‘cause of their well-worn IPU cutey-pieness. I’ve yet to really “figure them out,” and hope I never do.
5) One or two, no more.

1) How to get pfueled: I haven't participated in a file-sharing program since the collapse of free Napster. That said, when I did participate, I'm sure I was very popular "with the ladies". Presently, you can have the Chrome Box, Tanworth In Arden and bunch of Burzum records. You know, if you want them.

2) Rockism is thought to be the mindset held by rockists. And rockists are thought to be old people who see music as something created by spontaneous generation in a drop of Jimi's leg sweat. (There's already too much thinking going on in this chain, right? I mean, it can be a problem.) Anyway, rockism must be opposed primarily because of racism, which is very bad. No, I mean it. All this is kinda funny because anxiety about rockism seems so rockist. Like how you have to be Christian in the first place to care much about opposing the church. So you think your schooling's phony? Well, it's hard not too agree...

3) Cat Power

4) I like Deerhoof a whole hell of a lot more than Mr. Stevens. Not that I don't like Illinoise or whatever. I do. But it seems like an anomaly in the Mr. Stevens catalog. All the other Mr. Stevenses are impossibly boring. And while Deerhoof do get to sound a bit samey after a while, they kick Mr. Stevens' flabby white ass around the room with the proverbial quickness. Plus, what could possibly possess you to go see Mr. Stevens live? = the horror. Whereas Deerhoof live are much better than on record (see rockism).

Okay - my hamster just died, Some asshole hit my car while it was parked on the street - oh, and last night I was doing laundry and I was so excited because I found a wet $20 bill in the washer I put it dryer, left it in there overnight (community laundry - this morning I figured out that the 20 I found in the wash was part of the 120 I took out of the bank and stuffed in my pocket and so looked in the dryer hoping to find the other 100 - fucking neighbors....so your rejection is just perfectly timed - at least it wasnt buzzkill -
Anyway, the hamster, the car, even the missing money - those things suck, but, I don't take them too personaly - I was the only one who answered the questions and got rejected - and there is no justice in the world - "just us" - not me - bad things always happen to good people - maybe I was just a huge asshole in a past life - anyway, I feel a little better after all this typing - I dont quite have it in me to go through the formality of answering all your oh so meaningful questions again - but I'll give you the truth this time..not that it was all bullshit - my name is susan, I fucking hate los angeles (I'm sick of ferraris, fake boobs, stupid people and constant fucking sunshine - I miss the east coast) I could care less about defining rockism - Wikipedia has it all but does that word really exist? I guess so but it will be in my vocab - I suppose its the equivalent of me saying "that rocks" - but I don't really know what that means - I'm a great scrabble player but I'm no fucking Webster Dictionary - so I bullshit - I apologize - moving on I have no favorite picture of Cat Power - Do most people have a favorite picture of anyone - I don't even have a favorite pictue of my mom - but whatever - I've even include bonus pic of fiona apple and yours truly - please no neg comments about it (dont be mean) - I just want you know the face of whom you're crushing. Moving on , I also don't care to write an essay on Deerhoof or Steven whatever his name is but I do have a CD from both artists in my itunes library and if I had to delete one I'd delete Deerhoof - Ideally I'd keep one song from each - the rest of the songs are probably taking up space that could be better utilized - but ayway, my only sincere regret is that I lied about the albums "that others have successfully downloaded from you in the past week" - and I think its an invasive question but, I guess oink can ask whatever they want - I'm a heterosexual female, I speak only one language (really) but I can say hello in several - I think yellow might be my favorite color and I'm not sure what I want to be when I grow up - I went to catholic school - I'm not a practicing catholic - I believe in something? - and I feel feel guilty eating pasta and donuts - but I think I like pasta - I'm not so sure sure about donuts - the last three CDs downloaded from me: Neil Young, Dire Straits and Alanis Morissette...I just want one invite - I won't bother you again

2) What is rockism? (Rockism seems to be according to wiki and other various musical sites, essentially, the rather strong belief/mindset/attitude okay, an ideology to rock music. Disco, no, Techno, heavens no and anything technologically synthy that is void of a good old guitar or drums section, no. Maybe I - dread the thought - actually agree therefore with The Buggles on Video killed the Radio Star. Source - Slate contributor Douglas Wolk, wrote in Seattle Weekly that rockists regard rock as "normative … the standard state of popular music … to which everything else is compared, explicitly or implicitly"

Rockism is now discussed among critics as a viable way of examining of how they write their reviews and how they are absorbed into the mainstream or perceived by us, the consumers.

1) Ministry of Sound Housexy, David Bowie - The Rise and fall of Ziggy, New Order - Low Life

4) Which artist is better, Sufjan Stevens - his music is soft and subtle and his voice is one of those voices that makes you feel all floaty. he looks rather floaty too and i like that as his music makes me feel like floating and riding with the wind of winter, and too expand on that which is already known, I find his musical style experimental, yet derivative of such artists as bjork or tori amos. I originally posted this application and mentioned I'd like to purchase his album, when I had enough money. His songs, especially sister winter was what grabbed me, rather than deerhoof, as they were a little too experimental for me and i already have st etienne as my experimental love. I trust that this amendment to my lost application by your Australian office will suffice for my reposted application, which posted surfjan stevens unfinished....

5) How many invites do you require? just one , please.

I see you have already begun to take advantage of our wonderful music sharing service by dowloading the Bright Eyes Box Set. Be sure to check out many of his live recording that we have available.

I just grabbed the 9/14/97 surprise show in San Diego -- IMPECCABLE!! You can truly feel where Conor's heart is on that night -- as well as the tension in the crisp autumn air!!

You know I've told all my friends that I have it -- and I'm DEFINITELY NOT SHARING. LOLOLOLOLLOL:):):):)

The sting of this rejection continues to eat away at the discarded candy-wrapper I call my heart.

So, curse you!, administrators of prank file-sharing site! Curse you for belonging to the vast and largely unfriendly Societey of the Anti-Me. Curse you and all your knock-kneed generations with the rending of garments and the gnashing of unbrushed teeth. Off-brand cosmetics in your nostrils and, forevermore, the taste of ashes in your mouths.

Etc.

1) Name three shared albums (+192kbps only) that others have successfully downloaded from you in the past week :
1. Sufjan Stevens - A Sun Came 2. Hole - Pretty please ( bootleg) ....one of the best i have of them !
3. Plastikman - Nostalgik 1

2) What is rockism? (answer in paragraph format, eight sentence minimum) .

Rockism is the desire to return to the basics.
The holy trinity of guitar, drums and bass re-asserting itself at the heart of the music and its creators. A prime example would be the Stooges and in particular Iggy pop's atavistic approach to both performance and recording and life. Living the music, if you will, and the desire for authenticity. No bs approach typifies this. Female bands like Hole and L7 re-defined the male stranglehold on such things....Grrrll power asserted itself and let it be known that this was for all. Most bands when starting out had this ideal ....even early U2 were lauded for the stripped down clarity of their approach and sound. Invariably time moves on
and these band are no longer hungry or start to diversify..leaving true rock-ism behind for another generation. Not always the case but hence the search for the next new thing....with all the verve and excitement it promises.

3) Post a link to your favorite picture of Cat Power

4) Which artist is better, Sufjan Stevens or Deerhoof? Why? (answer in paragraph format, eight sentence minimum)

Sufjan Stevens connects with me more emotionally when I feel like being reflective ...but on the whole
I'd have to say Deerhoof. Being a Hole fan also sways me towards them. Their approach is still fresh, none were trained/skilled musicians and they make decisions democratically. That has to influence the music and its intent. The foregoing of accepted song structure is exciting and challenging. Stevens is about lushness and orchestration ........Deerhoof just go for it ! Reminds me of the
original punk ideals of '76 - the spirit of '76. Satomi is waay more assured than earlier and it just feels like the whole thing is getting stronger - 'Friend Opportunity' is never far from the stereo. Gotta get all their other stuff now.

5) How many invites do you require? Just ONE. Though if I could have TWO ( one for a friend... that'd be even better., thanks)
