so what if todays white kids like hip hop more than rock? all the british white rock artists of the 60s loved blues and R&B more than half the white british pop that was out at the time.

What people on this thread are forgetting is that Geir is completely fucking irrational and insane.

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Monday, 4 October 2004 14:53 (nineteen years ago) link

Is Geir Burzum

Professor Challenger (ex machina), Monday, 4 October 2004 14:54 (nineteen years ago) link

That would actually explain a lot.

That's what makes this thread so enjoyable.

Can I just remind everyone what is in Geir's slsk folder?

When I was a teenager about 50% of the videos MTV [showed] were rock, now it's like 5%.
MTV shows videos!?
When did they go back to doing that?
Apparently never when I turn to that station. I thought they switched over to "all shitty reality shows, all the time" format.

Please do.

sixteen years pass...

anyone ever read the 1959 project blog?
https://the1959project.com/
it's about 1959 jazz, every single day of it. great read.

anyway, in the last post, covering the jazz events of December 31, 1959, is this neat little article by Stanely Robertson, writing for the Los Angeles Sentinel:

sorry, that's the only image of it, and it's tiny. but gotta love these paragraphs near the end:

A tribe of guitar playing teenagers stole the basic beat from the old jazz-tinged "race music" of the 1930s and 1940s and created rock 'n roll, much to the displeasure of the nation's adults, but, much to the pleasure of the country's teenagers.

As the decade neared its end, indication was that rock and roll was dying.

rock is dead, long live 'n roll

In 1959, I'm sure Don McLean agreed.

Halfway there but for you, Friday, 16 April 2021 20:26 (three years ago) link

feel like that’s a major tenet of the whole rockabilly revival/drag race/vintage tattoo thing...rock didn’t recover from that plane crash until the arrival of social distortion or something
