I might've voted for Unfinished Sympathy if I had known it was going to get so few clicks. Overplayed as it is, it remains a magnificent piece of work.

Yeah this whole "voting for the 1 TRACK you like the most" thing is so unfair.

I voted for Protection, but Unfinished Sympathy would've been my number two, as they are the only Massive Attack songs I really care about. Both are brilliant tunes, but only one of them has ever brought me to tears, so I had to choose that.

So I put this together.

As much as Unfinished Sympathy is magnificent, I heard The Big Wheel for the first time in ages the other day, so I'd probably plump for that as my favourite. Nice list.

I missed the crucial bit, ffs! ...heard The Big Wheel and it dropped me right back into some pretty intense times from that period, so probably...

Protection def my 1st choice with Unfinished Sympathy a close second. US goes perfectly with El Perro Del Mar's "Walk On By" St. Etienne Remix, as it quotes the lyrics.

Alfred you could have included at least a song from heligoland or ritual union ep. Every song they've done with Horace Andy including Everywhen and Girl I Love You are great except that terrible Doors cover.

I forgot how great "Live With Me" is, truly one of the best "singles tacked onto a best-of" ever

I wish these guys were more prolific so I didn’t miss them so much, even their “bad” songs sound good to me.

Heligoland was a slow grower - but it's now my fave along Mezzanine.

PMT falls apart in its second side, "Lyrics of Fury" aside.

Yeah, I really disagree with that assessment. I think "Sex Drive," "My Evil is Strong," "Bad Things" and "Piano" just feel weak by comparison, because the first six tracks - "Vent" through "Ghetto Youth" are such an amazing run, but the whole album is ridiculously strong and cohesive. It sustains a very ugly, enervated mood and provides no relief or catharsis. I love it. It and Mezzanine are the two absolute keepers from this whole body of work IMO.

The first side is his most concentrated work; I can listen to "Tricky Kid" on loop for hours.

The PMT tour in 1997 was fucking wild. He played in almost total darkness. I saw the NYC date - Jeru the Damaja opened.
