During my brief stint at the college radio station, I found an MC 900 Foot Jesus thing on vinyl that prominently featured a woman talking about religious things and an organ. It was super weird and spooky and I liked to play it while I was alone in the station. Is that "I'm Going to Heaven"?

"If I Only Had A Brain" is still fantastic.

am only familiar with the one song that peel played but that one line of his, 'taste a little strange?', stuck in my memory.

No, that's the opening track, "A Greater God," on Hell With The Lid Off.

This dude's great. First two records are must-haves. I've got him filed between Consolidated and Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy, fwiw.

oh ... and whats with 'first two records are must haves' groove.
they are all f*cking brilliant.
so, as i have asked elsewhere : where is mc 900 ft jesus in 2013 ?

mark e, Friday, 17 May 2013 21:18 (ten years ago) link

I think I've heard the third in its entirety only once, which is why I hesitated to include it

No idea where he is in 2013 but apparently he was DJing in Dallas in 2009: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MC_900_Ft._Jesus

yeah i heard re that ..
still .. no-one has done the dark paranoia late night jazz fused hip hop thing quite as well as mc 900 ft ..
an untapped genre if ever there was one.

Anyone remember a parody of The City Sleeps except instead of ilghting fires, it goes "I make the donuts while the city sleeps"?

He has a YouTube account and comments on his own videos sometimes.

Doubt we'll ever see a new album.

He DJs around town occasionally and I see him at shows. As far as I know he has no interest in recording again.

The Beavis & Butthead commentary on the video for "If I Only Had a Brain" is pretty classic.

One Deja Vu bachelor party decades ago, one dancer used "The City Sleeps" for her stage music. Felt marginally less nerdy for waiting until the routine was over to ask the DJ the name of the song.

I heard Bonnie Prince Billy's "Gezundheit" today and wracked my brane trying to wonder where I'd heard that weird sermon before and finally realized it was the same as this. Anyone know what the original source of the sample is?
