The ELO that shared radio time with the other three ("Evil Woman") was about their unclassicalest, but you could count it I guess.

Never thought about this... Was Brian really so directionless when he recorded an even crappier version of "On Broadway" for his "Adult Child" session two years later?
Oh wait, I guess "Shortnin' Bread" answers that question.
j/k, I LOVE Adult Child anyway. <3
The Carmen s/t really holds up tho!! Fun thread!

Monty, having just listened to "Never Gonna Fall in Love Again" again, I've got to say that I think you've got that backward.

''Make Me Lose Control'' is great, and really underplayed - it's always a pleasant surprise. Great example of the weird recurrence of doo-wop moves in that era (what's the thread for that?). Guess I should check out his album(s)? I've always hated ''Hungry Eyes'' after I realized he wasn't saying ''Concrete Eyes,'' is his stuff generally more like that?

Okay, actually, the hyper-processed, boxy acapella part on "Make Me Lose Control" may almost be in a category of its own, it's so cold and empty. The closest comparison I could make would be some of the stuff on the Beach Boys' Still Cruisin'. Not saying it doesn't sound great, but damn does it sound weird.

love that new song, very "In My Room", and just read that Jeff Foskett (of Brian Wilson band fame) is part of the band, which makes total sense

Casino, so glad to hear you say "Make Me Lose Control" is good. A forgotten hit -- it charted higher than, Hungry Eyes"

I love Make Me Lose Control! Kinda belongs in that weird 80's doo-wop genre with Billy Joel's 'For the Longest Time' etc.
Casino otm about the weird deadness in the acappella part. Always pictured him singing that part playing chess with Death :)

ah the summer of '88. Cheap Trick's cover of "Don't Be Cruel" became their second biggest hit.

I still have nostalgic fondness for that cover, even though sometimes I think it might be terrible.
fyi Track 2 of tonight your mine 'Lost In the Shuffle' is Eagles-level horrible, not quite 'James Dean' but almost there. yikes.
