dudes, i have a new jack question about running direct for live shows. in two weeks i have my first gig doing my own material, and aside from some live drums i'll be using a sampler and a kaossilator. should i just assume that i'll be able to run both into d.i. boxes at the club, or should i invest in a small mixer to put them through first on stage?

still waffling on whether i just run multiple d.i.'s (i own at least one now) or spring for a cheap behringer mixer

most clubs should have at least 2 DI boxes i would hope? maybe check with them first

tbf the only reason to use a mixer would be if you figure that the peeps behind the soundboard are going to be confounded by figuring out how to mix the electronic stuff. which might be 100% true tbh.
also i think that the sampler and kaossilator are both line level out (not instrument out) so DI boxes wouldn't be the right choice anyway.

i can explain that more if that is unclear. DI boxes confuse folks.
Actually wait, kaos thingy is prob instrument out, but sampler should have a line out.

they're both rca outs? so right now i have cords that go from stereo rca to mono 1/8", with a 1/4" adapter on that. like this, plus the adapter:

not sure if this is problem or if there's a better solution. it would be so much easier if they both had a 1/4" line out.

problem = problematic

and if i don't use a stereo-to-mono cable like that, will i need two d.i.'s per instrument?

okay, looking into this a bit more. should i just forget the above, and get dual rca to dual 1/4" cables for both the sampler and the kaossilator? and will those have to go into d.i.'s at the club?

^^^was freaking out a little, sorry.
i got it figured out, called an old bandmate who's worked as a sound guy and ended up buying a small, cheap mixer + rca to 1/4" cables, and some normal 1/4" ones to go from the mixer to the club d.i.'s. i tried at home for proof of concept, works nicely.

My Behringer Xenyx blew up about a year ago and I have not replaced it yet. Does anyone have recommendations for a 12-16 input mixer? It doesn’t have to be particularly flashy. I never bothered using the effects on the Behringer.

Amazon had a ridiculous discount on the Keith McMillen K-Mix which is eight-input but a substantial upgrade on my mixer and my audio interface. It is only about the size of a kindle and can apparently be run over by a car without incurring damage. Seems amazing so far.

It has a name like a blender sold on late night TV but it looks awesome.
