I wore those pants...in fourth grade. With some kind of pink sweatshirt that had puff-paint sheep or bunnies on it -- I can't even remember but I was desperate for something with puff-paint. Never goin back there, not even for y'all.

Oh god I loved puff paint. Ha. I'm pretty sure I wore v similar pants around then too. Just terrible.

puff painted sweatshirts and drip-and-drape earrings were big at my middle school, followed by stirrup pants with oversize neon shirts and scrunchy socks in high school

Those are trousers, they don't have a "stomach" - and how can you see the butt? have you enhanced and rotated?

1) there are no pockets on the butt, which frequently leads to the appearance of a flat butt, esp. with such high waisted pants
2) pleats are like a little cave for poochy stomachs (ie normal stomachs). if a person has even the smallest pooch, pleats are basically an advertisement for that pooch. little fabric arrows pointing at one's pooch.

conclusion -- these pants are unflattering if you do not have a perfectly flat stomach or a perfectly round rear.

we aren't so far from those. if the cycle of fashion repeats 70-80s move from slim hip-hugger flares to high waisted pleated tapered poufy jeans repeats, skinny jeans having almost finished their run surely means you'll see someone wearing those without irony any day now.

A lot of things come and go without ever breaking the "without irony" barrier. I'll be happy if these pants have their day among the tragically hip and then go away for another 15 years.

The girls are already wearing the shorts version of those jeans: high-waisted and pleated and possibly with cuffs, worn with oxford shoes of some kind probably mousy brown -- very "studenty". As soon as fall hits I'm sure the long versions will make the scene.

i am aware of fashion's cyclical nature, and i am aware that girls are wearing high waisted pleated shorts, BUT

* that doesn't change the fact that these pants are ugly as shit
* my inability to even consider wearing them means that i am not a candidate for shopping in the junior's section anymore

i probably shouldn't shop there anyway, and i don't really, because i don't really "shop" but you know what i mean

Many US companies began "vanity sizing" in the 80s, convincing people that they wore a smaller size than what the garment measures out to be (eg, a size 27" garment measures to a true 29"). Some brands (like Levi's) resisted this trend for over a decade until they saw their sales decrease because those brands "didn't fit" the consumer. European and Asian companies do not vanity size which may explain the variance.

To learn more about vanity sizing, take a tape measure and your favorite jeans and measure the waist and compare to the stated size.

I want to buy some APC jeans but unfortunately nowhere sells them here so I can't try them on. this wouldn't ordinarily be an issue except... I recently bought some 32" waist zara jeans that fit nice however I picked up some 32" cos cords and though I can get them shut they're unbearably tight.

should I just go with the 32" in the APC knowing that I'll size down a bit as we come out of winter and they'll stretch out a bit?

wish there was a "waistline Vs. actual waistline" infographic which took in zara and cos though I suspect cos' trousers are true to size.

side question: are the uniqlo japan jeans decent? and is the japan slim fit similar to the APC new cures or new standards?

haha well how unbearable is 'unbearable'? apc tends to fit p true to size ime (i.e. less generous than probably zara) although i guess the cords might fit differently...

anyone have any tips for sealing in jean color? I bought these AE flares on ebay and while they're surprisingly bitchin in color and form they are a saturated dark wash and I find my hands blue after wearing them for an hour or two. I really don't want them to fade.
