yeh i actually downloaded an alleged "no dj" version of the whole release thinking it would either be legit or just sub in the available no dj tracks for me but in fact it just clips dj tracks and fucks around. not recommended. are u really feeling this more than "mr zone 6"?
― k'naamean (zvookster), Thursday, 26 August 2010 22:59 (thirteen years ago) link
i get a lot more replays out of it. but then i like 'the movie' more than 'writings on the wall'
i think i generally prefer his weird pop tapes to his dense lyrical ones, if u can be reductive in describing them that way
― NOT FUNNY NEEDS MORE GUCCI (deej), Thursday, 26 August 2010 23:37 (thirteen years ago) link
really i like the ones that balance those two things the best -- i mean none of those records are exactly eschewing the other characteristic
i like 'trap talk' more than anything on 'mr zone 6' for sure tho

man max b really was a pretty fresh angle for ny -- i sorta assumed he was just some more overrated dipst related shit

some of the beats on these are pretty lame tho -- 'tattoos on her ass' is like ehhh

i guess thats a part of the cheap nu-ny aesthetic or whatever but it just makes it hard to listen to all the time imo when so much rap outside ny is more dynamic production-wise

I was not aware until after I got the ticket that they were actually doing the full albums; I remember hearing conversations with bookers last year about a few of these trying to come together as one offs but had no idea they made a package until after somebody gifted me tix. I am pretty fucking pumped.

i know this is completely besides the point, but hearing a joint like that makes me wonder what would happen if you told an eskay-type dude that that was a gucci song, cuz that's really (at least lyrically) the lineage that gucci is following imo

man Coke Wave was a classic and Coke Wave 2 is great but by then FM started taking a 50/50 role and he's kinda awful. Outside of his laughable personality and very questionable choices I always fucked with biggavelli's musicTumblr has a way of reframing anything in it own image.
Owwwwwwwww!

First time I really thought, OK who is this guy?, was on the Cam diss record to Jay called "You Got to Love It" which was at the height of the the whole "he's not a writer he's a biter" beef. Max had this bizarre bummy, atonal, drunk, half sung mumbling on the hook.
Filling that void now for Jimmy is a man who I am a big, and perhaps the only, fan of, Sen City.

i'm not the hugest max b fan but i'm def disappointed that we didn't get to see his career play out
wonder if he'd be getting that based god press right now, or maybe even more
― J0rdan S., Friday, 27 August 2010 04:53 (thirteen years ago) link
his appeal is 100% different from lil b's so no way
as a rapper hes totally up my alley -- laid back personality, lets more intricate shit sound really natural & relaxed & unhurried, cool voice ... basically everything ive liked since guru --> gucci / jacka / cormega . nonchalant rappers

Watch any video of max b talking or fucking around in a hood DVD type atmosphere and you'll see why he's nothing at all like LIl B...he's more like the scary creep drunk guy who saunters into the bar and gets pissed off when no one wants to listen to his demo and then gets asked to leave.
He's kind of a gross dude
― #.rar performance (surfboard dudes get wiped out, totally), Friday, 27 August 2010 05:30 (thirteen years ago) link
yall
i just meant going from an internet/youtube 'underground' cult figure to having a possibly legitimate rap career
― J0rdan S., Friday, 27 August 2010 05:32 (thirteen years ago) link
i wasn't insinuating that max b was going to go on a mission to invert the rules of how rap deals with sexuality and masculinity
― J0rdan S., Friday, 27 August 2010 05:33 (thirteen years ago) link
Max B's career almost could only have gone the way it did. He was flagrant with his absurd griminess. There is no place for a Max B in a Skinny Jeans era, whereas Lil B fits into that framework to a certain degree and I feel that has something to do with his (relative) crossover popularity. Max B was a throwback to an irrelevant era (mid 2000s mixtape). He was anachronistic but totally original.
