yeah i'm listening to "I Care 4 U" right now and it's really moving. the run of posthumous singles in the year after she died was so great and so bittersweet.

Great poll! I wish I could put money on this, because I suspect "More Than a Woman" is going to come out on top.

i would take that bet, because in lists and polls that song always seems to get beat by "Resolution" or "Try Again" or the '90s hits (xpost)

Although not a Timbo production, my favorite Aaliyah moment is "Rock Da Boat," which is erotic in an otherworldly way.

I'm thinking We Need a Resolution will win this unless people go for the obvious Try Again. All the songs could win for all I care, she's flawless.

I Care 4 U... sweetest, saddest thing I ever heard, and it gets my vote. Always chose it as my favorite Aaliyah tune, but it's not even about the songs is it. She could make me cry/scream/sweat performing any song, I think I wept when I watched her do the Christmas Song.

imo "We Need A Resolution" and "Try Again" are kinda overrated, not bad of course but i prefer pretty much all the other big singles to those 2

i think they're both incredible tracks but overrated vis-à-vis the rest of her catalogue, in that there's no reason why they should be predictable winners, but they always are - it's more that the rest of her songs are underrated by casual fans ;_;

I don't own One in a Million. I guess I should rectify this.

agree w/ this altho i like 'one in a million' slightly more, 'somebody' is more representative of her peak power stuff

how do you guys feel about "Erica Kane"? The only one of her singles that's below average.

Post-Aaliyah, Timbaland's productions never quite hit the spot like they used to.

"erica kane" is cool, i didn't know it was a single. i liked that she did this character study of this outlaw femme fatale anti-heroine, then i realised belatedly it was about (eri)COCAINE, do you see, which was a bit disappointing.

"Are You That Somebody?"

I find the repeated chorus of "Erica Kane" kinda boring; it's like she ran out of song to sing.

"Erika Kane" was an outtake originally, only released post-humously because it constituted "new" material at that point.

I wouldn't describe myself as a casual fan but for me it's between "One In A Million" and "We Need A Resolution" - if these are "overrated" it's for very good reason.

IMO these 4 tower over everything else in her discography with the exceptions of "Never No More" and "It's Whatever".

Which is not to dismiss the excellent "Rock The Boat", "If Your Girl Only Knew" et. al. but with the above 4 when I'm listening to them any of them could be the finest song ever made. It's amazing Aaliyah produced so many songs in this category, really.

I think "Try Again" was maybe slightly overrated at the time - mainly because lots of rock critic types (myself included) jumped onto Timbaland/Aaliyah between 1998 and 2000 and "Try Again" was the first new thing from them - but I get the impression its rep has receded slightly to a level more appropriate to its actual status as excellent but not best-thing-ever.

"try again" is brilliant because of the narrative and behind-the-game perspective she gives, not the ~acid squelches~

"one in a million" and "4 page letter" peaked at #7 and #59 on the airplay chart, respectively. "hot like fire" did not place on that chart.

Well, 'One in a Million' would be significantly more awesome than it already is, but I think there would be enough left on the s/t for it to remain pretty damn good.

yeah what alex said, though i think "i care 4 u" would actually stick out a bit on OIAM and not in a good way - it seems to fit in with the s/t a lot more

i mean the reason the s/t has more of a classic rep than OIAM isn't that OIAM isn't as good, at its best, it's cuz there's basically no filler or anything less than great on the s/t. also, my views are coloured by "try again" being on international copies of the s/t
