there really arent that many rappers who talk about it this exclusively! kinda tiring of the Some Dude 'why is this rapper suddenly so popular??' thing -- made more sense when u were talking about big krit, less so a rapper who has been releasing mixtapes and building steady buzz for the last four years while guesting on lots of ppl's songs

xp i don't think the point of curren$y is to approach it with humor--his thing is a lot darker imo.

i mean why are cheech & chong huge .... its no big mystery, hes an affable stoner w/ a unique persona & is a really really skilled rapper

yeah, it's fine has its moments obv, but i think it's prob the least good currensy album/mixtape i've heard

i agree that curren$y is more of an effect than a leader on this album but goddamn the beats are good and C doesn't take anything away from them.
This feels a little frontloaded to me. Real nice overall tho'.

yeah sorry it is a bit predictable from me. but MTV Jams keeps playing the "Life Under The Scope" video back to back with Wiz's "This Plane" and i'm just scratching my head like holy shit this is some boring-ass rap music. the "Scope" beat is so wack I'm disappointed in Ski for making it.

admittedly it hasn't been a huge year for rap tbh but both of these albums are pretty overrated & prob not in my top ten of the year. i think 2011 is going to be a great year for rap, though. a lot of cool shit sprouting these days

Nah, Rick Ross and Shabazz Palaces are terrific too.

ppl have been repping for lots of (quite varied) stuff this year.

xxxp yeah, the drums are way undermixed (intentionally, i imagine) but it works imo. knocking hard is not that track's purpose

samosa otm about both the big boi & pilot talk being overrated/not top ten/etc but both are fine and i think most ppl here if they started shitting on them it would be kind of disingenuous to do so

yeah, late-breaking definitely, but i think it came out last summer

for me rap in 2010 is a handful of solid releases from mid-weight dudes (gucci, jeezy, z-ro & friends, ross) and some really promising debuts, and then cool subterranean internet rap nerd shit like lil b & odd future & young l bay slap. as much as i love that yelawolf tape i strongly believe the follow-up will surpass it, and it's going to be really interesting to follow him and like, roach gigz and and krit too. hopefully starlito, too. lots of fun to be had listening but most of my favourite releases are auspices of hope that some 10/10 world-defeating rap music is in the works

last thing i want to do is shit on big boi or currensy, just hope that people cast a bit of a wider net as barometer of rap in 2010. there are like seven enormous jams on sir luscious

this is kind of a weird incubator year, if that makes sense. but that mostly tells me things are healthy, even a lot of good stuff is not right at the forefront.

or even in its most developed state. like, there's a lot of potential in the air right now.
