wow this just gets more uh the further i get - for every WHY THE FUCK CANT I WALK UP THE STAIRS moment (oh trust me u will know exactly what im talking about when u play it) you get a batshit crazy story from "the general" or a discussion of "the sinner's sandwich" or the sheriffs deputy creepily dancing alone to non-existent music in the hotel room he lives in while you peep through the curtains at him. none of these are spoilers btw. im not even sure if you dould spoiler this game because it makes no goddamn sense most of the time.

its completely fucking unhinged - and unlike what some people are saying, not all the shittiness is intentional, but some of it definitely is (there is no way that using the old doom "picture of something on flat plane" technique to do the vegetable bins in the grocery store was anything other than intentional for example). i still dont know what the hell to make of all of it. also somewhere in there is a totally engrossing story. i think.

also, BEST PAUSE MENU IN ANY GAME EVER.

another totally bizarre thing about this is that every so often out of the blue will come a really well acted and totally touching moment and then its right back into the blender of weird.

probably clocked at least 20 hours so far, only on day 2! however i would be lying if i told you that all of that time was enjoyable. there are some slogs here for sure.

silent hill is a stupid name. also: twin peaks.

btw i finally found a copy of this in canada and i am stoked to play it. i played the first 30m or so last night and i laughed a lot.

I played through the first part (which I'd already seen before) and am looking forward to continuing. I think I'm going to only play a bit at a time, though. The gameplay is pretty terrible, so small doses is for the best.

hahaha ok i hit the first point in the game where i am 99% sure someone on the development team is not only in on the joke, but actively fucking with me. real time 30 mph LONG LONG LONG tailing a suspect sequence concluded by - well you know yer just going to have to find out for yourself.

also had a genuinely O_O "conversation" w/zach about a past murder investigation. whatever other weirdness is going on here the script has some srs over the top dark freaky shit in it.

okay i had never heard of this game before today, but it sounds amazing.

(i will probably wait for a youtube highlights vid though)

man idk, considering the length of playtime available here and the sub-$ cost i dont see any reason for anyone not to pick it up, if you hate it sell it back to gamestop and yer probably out what a beer at the bar dollarwise?

isn't this like "the food is terrible, but the portions are huge (and the prices are low)"?

since i don't really have enough time to play fun games, it seems like a good move to get lols from youtube/this thread rather than actually playing through it?

but even i don't play it, i'm heartened that there are still broken + hilarious games being made for the youth of today

If you don't have enough time to play fun games then you probably shouldn't play this fun game.

yeah if i am not being clear here i have def got more solid enjoyment out of this than any other game thats come out this year i think. like i am pretty sure ill never finish red dead but i am certain that ill finish this

also no runthrough could really do this justice, the instrusions of bizzaro crazy kinda come from all angles. random conversations with NPCs that are otherwise obviously useless can yield fantastic results for example.

not to keep sounding like the street team for this - its def not for everyone - but its way better than the whole "so bad its good" thing, it stands up as a really legitimately entertaining (albeit sometimes frustrating) experience. whoever suggested rolling through on simple difficulty is otm though, yer def not playing this for the game mechanics.

pro tip: get some infinite ammo weapons early in the game, or you will break something in your house in response to the section w/several wall crawling ghosty things.

still digging this, although ive definitely missed out on some side missions and whatever. the bizarroness is starting to gel into something fascinating beyond lols tho - i think there might actually be something intriguing going on behind all this o_O stuff. we'll see.

am flabbergasted that this has a thread dedicated to it. bought this used a few weeks ago after hearing of its rep and this game is genuinely fucking incredible, like video game outsider art.

i am so amazed that there are still used copies of this out in the wild, i assumed that by now they all would have been snapped up, but i see them all the time.

anyone who hasnt played this is missing out on what is arguably the most interesting thing to ever come out on the 360. no lie.

i still haven't played my copy but it's sitting at home waiting for a good free chunk of time

Someday I will give this game a second effort. I got a good chunk of the way in but not far enough to get to the meat of the game, I think.

it's very much the kind of game you have to play in small doses. i tried spending a few hours playing it and it just got exhausting. is there anything nearly this singularly bizarre from this console generation? i've been picking up a lot of weirder used games on the cheap lately--Earth Defense Force, 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand, Bulletstorm, Binary Domain, etc. etc.--but the closest analogue I can think of for this is some semi-competent blend of Suda 51, Shenmue, and Twin Peaks.

they finally patched the PC version to enable controller support so looks like it's time

The opening cinematic is one of the weirdest, most unsettling things I've ever seen.

The game tutorial appears to make no sense.

I'm pretty much convinced that the POV character is mentally-unstable after 3 minutes of monologue.

Haven't been playing much due to babies + mother-in-law + Borderlands prequel but this appears to be an entirely insane game on first glance.

I'm trying to remember why I stopped playing this a while back. I think it was the driving, because the driving is the worst driving in any game ever.

the first driving bit is a jump-off point for a lot of people who somehow slug it through the first terrible hour. it's genuinely really bad.

that's what some of us hoped as well, and someone brought it to swery's attention, and he said "oh! sorry, i'll get right on that", and released a patch that fixed damn near nothing, and then that was brought to swery's attention as well, and swery's response was to talk about his "creative freedom" and make a couple more tweets that were more blunt that he then deleted

don't get your hopes up.

if it gets a pc release after the 6 months of switch exclusivity are up then maybe it'll run better there, though the first game actually runs worse on pc than on 360 lol

either way i will be playing this on switch handheld mode for the proper experience

I literally forgot this game came out until I watched sleepy hollow today and saw that weird tree and was like "oh damn deadly premonition, did that come out?" and then I bought it and now I'm playing it that's the whole story

these are both on sale for switch now, which seems rare?

by which i mean they are both discounted. i don't remember a price drop on DP2 since i put on my wishlist a year or two ago.

Definitely don't jump to 2.

everyone should play Deadly Premonition 1, but I can't speak to how well it plays on the switch since at least the 360 and PC versions all had their own problems.

play the 360 version. it's back compatible with the bone and series consoles too

if xbox is not an option, the various ports are all slightly worse than the 360 original: the director's cut extra content is pointless, game looks worse, performance is worse, crashes are more frequent. still worth checking out imo, but the switch one is the worst port of all i think

definitely don't bother with 2 unless you've played 1. i loved 1 but couldn't stomach 2, ymmv

yeah 2 was not well received even by huge fans of 1 so i stayed away. sounded like it was just worse all around - writing not as charming or engaging, performance downgraded from 'janky low budget game' to 'so broken it's barely playable'

This is the perfect steam deck to play beside my wife while she watches pretty little liars. I tried it when it came out and was one to jump out as soon as I had to jump in a car and navigate the games handling. Now, I’m having a ball. Very keen to try 2 as well, apparently the pc version fixes most/all of the performance woes of the switch

Incredibly on brand for this game: The steam achievement for completing episode 1 spoils who the killer is in its description. Couldn’t help but laugh when I saw it come up at the bottom of my screen. Oh well, let’s see how it all unfolds!
