The Cars "Fine Line"
Gary Numan "This Is Love"

I love Gary Numan, but you're right...he does have some dreadfully dull songs.

the saxophone bit alone=happiness

plate of dinosaurs (San Te), Sunday, 15 August 2010 14:09 (thirteen years ago) link

I used to love 'This Is Love' but I'm guessing it probably is quite dull.

I find a lot of emo and metalcore of the last ten years boring just because it's so interchangeable. Bands such as Athlete, Snow Patrol and Coldplay are bordering more on offensive but are still pretty fucking boring.

I wonder if anyone finds minimal house/techno/electronica or ambient music boring...

My gf and I - both completely out of the "indie" loop - recently decided we'd listen to the new National album to see what all the fuss was about. I downloaded it and put it on my iPod and we tried listening to it in the car - AND WE KEPT FORGETTING THAT IT WAS ON. We'd listen for a few minutes, then get distracted by something, start talking, and then be all "shit, let's go back, we just missed like three songs," and we'd go back, and the same thing would happen.

That's far worse a fate than hearing "Lady In Red" and demanding it be turned off immediately (which I have done). Who was it that said the opposite of love is not hate, it's indifference?

"No Return" is madness, that song rules. "If...If I could see / just...how lonely MY LIFE would be / if yooooou...passed me by..."

If Assholes Could Fly This Place Would Be An Airport, Sunday, 15 August 2010 15:01 (thirteen years ago) link

Indeed. Lady In Red is Abu Ghraib torture. The National is... what exactly? I've heard three albums by them and seen them live three times and I couldn't tell you a single thing about them...

Duran (Doran), Sunday, 15 August 2010 16:05 (thirteen years ago) link

i had a high school friend who was really into Chris DeBurgh -- never could figure out WHY.

this happens to me with a lot of albums, not just indie ones. and yeah, it's partially true with this new nat'l album, but i have to exclude bloodbuzz ohio from that assessment. that song's a compelling, memorable monster.

most boring songs fron bands who arent boring:

Love - Revelation

LCD Soundsystem - Somebody's Calling Me

...

Zeno, Sunday, 15 August 2010 16:50 (thirteen years ago) link

congrats assholes/airport, you're the 47 thousandth guy to talk about how the national is boring!

call all destroyer, Sunday, 15 August 2010 16:54 (thirteen years ago) link

not sure what the point of the music in the car thing was, I lose focus on music in the car all the time, has to do with the fact that I dunno, YOU'RE DRIVING and stuff.

plate of dinosaurs (San Te), Sunday, 15 August 2010 16:55 (thirteen years ago) link

In some ways I think the car is the ideal place to experience an album for the first time. Home is where I'm distracted.

When we listened o the new Swans album on the same trip, we both just shit right the fuck up and let it play. Then we wanted to hear it again.

If Assholes Could Fly This Place Would Be An Airport, Sunday, 15 August 2010 18:06 (thirteen years ago) link

I mean yea I get distracted at home too but I can't listen to really involved things like progressive rock in the car cuz I miss too much due to concentrating on the road.

plate of dinosaurs (San Te), Sunday, 15 August 2010 22:31 (thirteen years ago) link

"Solo Dolo" from the Kid Cudi album, mostly because it is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SLOW.

it's pretty inoffensive but puts me to sleep

plate of dinosaurs (San Te), Sunday, 15 August 2010 22:43 (thirteen years ago) link

there are no boring songs only boring people

max, Sunday, 15 August 2010 22:44 (thirteen years ago) link

Anything from Roddy 'Idlewild' Woomble's solo album. Utterly dreary earnest folk rock, about as charismatic as a piece of toast. Was subjected to this in Artisan Roast, Glasgow. Nice coffee, but sort your music out!

Reading through this thread is more boring than most of the song choices.

Agree with Lighthouse Family. Always hated Hero by Enrique Iglesias.

Sgt. Biscuits, Monday, 16 August 2010 10:41 (thirteen years ago) link

Foreigner - "I want to know what love is"

Mike & The Mechanics - "The Living Years"

Whitney Houston - "One moment in time", "Didn't we almost have it all"

Nelly & Kelly - "Dilemma"

Uncle Kracker - "Drift Away"

LeRooLeRoo, Monday, 16 August 2010 22:38 (thirteen years ago) link

LeRooLeRoo has the first list I largely agree with (except for "Dilemma", not a huge fan of the song but I can think of much worse). btw ILX is going to eviscerate you for that one.

plate of dinosaurs (San Te), Monday, 16 August 2010 22:40 (thirteen years ago) link

Careless Whisper is the only George Michael song I will tolerate, because it is fantastic

glitter hands! glitter hands! razzle! dazzle! (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 16 August 2010 22:42 (thirteen years ago) link

yes it is although I <3 George Michael in general. well, the Faith album mostly (though Listen Without Prejudice had many high poitns too).

plate of dinosaurs (San Te), Monday, 16 August 2010 22:43 (thirteen years ago) link

I disagree with your selection. The song you consider to be boring is in actuality quite exciting. Conversely, whenever I think of boring songs, your favorite instantly springs to mind.

kornrulez6969, Monday, 16 August 2010 22:48 (thirteen years ago) link

btw ILX is going to eviscerate you for that one.

Eviscerate away ILX! I just think it does nothing and goes nowhere, therefore is pretty boring. The melody in the chorus especially is very basic, repetitive and uninteresting.

Bittersweet Symphony

I like him usually but Tom Petty's "Learning to Fly" has always seemed like the dullest, most generic single possible.

Look Back in Anger
Chasing Cars

rhythm fixated member (chap), Tuesday, 17 August 2010 00:50 (thirteen years ago) link

Sorry, that should be Don't Look Back in Anger. Look Back in Anger is a not boring at all David Bowie song.

rhythm fixated member (chap), Tuesday, 17 August 2010 00:51 (thirteen years ago) link

Anything by the Goo Goo Dolls or any other 90s alternative-lite act.

daavid, Tuesday, 17 August 2010 02:02 (thirteen years ago) link

I was actually thinking of a specific song by them, but it's so boring I can't even remember the title. You all probably know which one I'm talking about.

daavid, Tuesday, 17 August 2010 02:04 (thirteen years ago) link

erm, the Goo Goo Dolls weren't some alternative-lite act until Dizzy Up the Girl, they were actually a very catchy power pop act for many years...especially on Hold Me Up, Jed, and A Boy Named Goo.

plate of dinosaurs (San Te), Tuesday, 17 August 2010 03:39 (thirteen years ago) link

Wow, I'm way surprised "Careless Whisper" is so widely considered classic. It just sounds unbelievably cheesy to me. I just think of, like, two people massaging each other in a candle-lit hot tub with rose petals all around and a Barbara Walters glow. In some Lifetime movie in 1995

Chanté Ackerman (Stevie D), Tuesday, 17 August 2010 05:04 (thirteen years ago) link

It's not that bad imo but not worthy of indignation. The only Wham! song I really like is "Everything She Wants".

albino python on cocaine (corey), Tuesday, 17 August 2010 05:13 (thirteen years ago) link

Everything She Wants is great. I think all the Wham singles were mostly great, their album tracks were extremely boring though. "Credit card Baby"?

plate of dinosaurs (San Te), Tuesday, 17 August 2010 05:14 (thirteen years ago) link

Careless Whisper is definitely pretty cheesy. Also brilliant.

rhythm fixated member (chap), Tuesday, 17 August 2010 08:54 (thirteen years ago) link

I love oldies but Bread HAS NO REDEEMING VALUE AT ALL.

Balls. "Guitar Man" = awesomeness.

Beatles own this thread IMO

tom d: he did what he had to do now he is dead (Tom D.), Tuesday, 17 August 2010 11:35 (thirteen years ago) link

I like a bit of Blondie now and then, but "One Way Or Another" has to be one of the most mind-meltingly boring tracks of all time.
