dan, did you check out that song? it'll take some of the pain away.

teh_kit says 'FACES' (g-kit), Wednesday, 12 April 2006 13:12 (eighteen years ago) link

I assumed that was the same song that had the video of the blossoming night elf romance intercut with heartfelt studio singing of the song and as such I didn't want to experience it without the video.

Yeah, I've tried looking for a clearer copy but it's not happening. I want to read what the peeps at the funeral are saying as they get jacked.

World of Warcraft to the Big Screen
Source: Variety
May 9, 2006

Warner Bros.-based Legendary Pictures has picked up film rights to adapt the popular fantasy video game franchise World of Warcraft and will develop the project with game publisher Blizzard Entertainment, which is owned by Vivendi.

While the "Warcraft" franchise has been around for more than a decade, the most recent iteration, the megahit online title "World of Warcraft," has transformed the video game industry.

Unlike most games, where players pay $50 once and play until they're done, more than 6 million people around the world pay $14.99 per month to participate in the multiplayer game.

Legendary put up half the money for Warners' Batman Begins and the upcoming Superman Returns.

I've been very angry at my computer because if I go do an instance, I get booted off the server for no discernable reason. The only plus side to this is that the inability to grind/quest for my Valor set meant I had time to go grind for Timbermaw faction.

Oh and patch 1.11 today. I wish it wasn't taking so long.

alan w (uzumaki), Wednesday, 21 June 2006 15:47 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm just happy I had the background downloader working over the past week so I alread had 75% of it by the time release day rolled around. The floating fortresses are BADASS.

I guess I really need to start focusing on my lvl 60 as opposed to levelling alts; I still only have 4 pieces of the Valor set and my PVP rank has never been above Seargent. I think I'm more suited towards casters than melee classes, though, at least in parties. (Also my priest is just more fun to play.)

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 21 June 2006 15:58 (seventeen years ago) link

Good idea having it running beforehand. 98% done now, shouldn't be long till i'm seeing some badass floating fortresses for myself :)

Jeffrey only needs his gloves to complete his beaststalker set and is rank 7 in pvp now i think. I'm only at lvl 33 with my warlock so far, so such things are a long way off.

I'm more suited to casters to i believe. Although i love hunters most in solo play.

alan w (uzumaki), Wednesday, 21 June 2006 16:35 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh yeah, hunters are MAD FUN to play and are total grind machines! I've been bouncing back and forth between a priest (41) and a hunter (24) for the past month.

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 21 June 2006 16:44 (seventeen years ago) link

i am mad fun.

penny arcade: how do the writers/artists find the time to be that unfunny?

Haha, I actually thought that one was quite good. But then, I've never played WoW.

You're missing jon's point, which is that Penny Arcade has been proven by science to be unfunny. To jon.

How do I shot update? Come on lads, what's happening? Who's winning if such a thing is possible in WoW?!

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Friday, 21 July 2006 09:08 (seventeen years ago) link

hahahaha

Currently my warrior is lvl 60 and languishing from neglect because I'm not really digging the endgame content/time commitment. My priest is 46 and my hunter is 29 and both are a buttload more fun to play.

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Friday, 21 July 2006 13:28 (seventeen years ago) link

I am totally sure what endgame content means but YaY! You've been not putting the time in? For shame. Is it possible to get pix of these characters?

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Friday, 21 July 2006 13:36 (seventeen years ago) link

i am bored with my level 60 hunter, 40 men raids where i feel like i am making no impact at all and last for four or five hours aren't my idea of fun so i started working on a huge stable of alts. i'm really enjoying shamans and druids, seem to play really differently from the other classes. The Gates of Ahn'Qiraj opened yesterday on my server. Lag ensued. Also 100 foot tall egyptian god type things. fun.

Dxy (Danny), Sunday, 23 July 2006 23:18 (seventeen years ago) link

100 foot tall egyptian god type things sounds like the greatest things ever! How do you find time for all the alts (alternative characters yes?)? Do you get email updates?

I also wondered: can your character die or does it just level down? Can your character be attacked if your offline or do you just disappear?

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Monday, 24 July 2006 10:02 (seventeen years ago) link

You disappear if you're offline. Also you die all the time but you can resurrect with minimal penalties (ie, your gear gets beat up and you have to pay to get it repaired).

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Monday, 24 July 2006 12:57 (seventeen years ago) link

Ah right, so can you log out but still have your character travel to a point or do you have to be online for them to move from a to b. IF so, no wonder people lose so much time.

Are workshops hard to find? Would there be a risk that when you're killed your attacker can grab your gear?

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 09:22 (seventeen years ago) link

You can't travel while you're logged off. Logging off effectively removes you completely from the world and you come back in the spot where you last were.

People can't loot your gear when you get killed like they could in other online games.

If by "workshops" you mean "someone to fix your gear", it's usually pretty easy; any NPC selling armor or weapons can also fix your gear, plus if you take the engineering profession you can eventually make a repair robot that can fix your gear for you.

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 10:28 (seventeen years ago) link

Your ghost will appear next to a Spirit Guide in the nearest town when you die - you have a choice of going to find your body (with the penalties involved) or being resurrected there and then, which means your armor takes another battering (though there's usually someone around to fix it) and you feel ill for ~10 minutes.

Also the penalties only apply to death by monsters/the environment. If you're killed by other players, your armor is fine (though if it happens too often, there's a delay in resurrection). This is due to the dedicated PvP areas being a bit of a killathon, as you'd imagine.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 11:24 (seventeen years ago) link

The rez penalty gets applied regardless of who killed you, though.

Should we go into classes/professions or just link wowwiki?

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 12:50 (seventeen years ago) link

God no! Thanks for all the answers. I was only curious about travel and what happened when you died. Now all I want are images of things in the game that allow me to imagine this all! GIS be damned, it can't beat people who play the game trying to convince me how great it is/was!

100 foot tall egyptian things a must :) but I'll GIS those for now.

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 13:25 (seventeen years ago) link

It's been a while, but I thought you didn't get rez sickness in Battlegrounds, which is what I meant to say.
