Oh, I'm very happy to see something new on here. I just meant that, even though I've not heard a lot of these albums - I'd at least heard OF everything on here until I got to Manilla Road.

you really think the Black Album will place that high? it always seemed to me like the metal cru on ILM hates that album so much that it kind of drowns out how huge and ubiquitous it is/was.

most of the votes came from non rolling metal thread regulars btw. They would never have voted for raw power f'rinstance

I really hope the Black album doesn't place. Four Metallica albums deserved a spot in the top 100, but that wasn't one of them.

Stooges are a little bit more ilx canon than the Black Album. not saying i'll die of shock if it shows up, but usually whenever the subject comes up i feel like one of the album's only defenders.

dark twisted fanta girl (some dude), Thursday, 12 August 2010 23:00 (thirteen years ago) link

jesus, yob-mania, who knew? herman, are you sure you aren't just posting your own ballot?

scott seward, Thursday, 12 August 2010 23:01 (thirteen years ago) link

Lester Bangs coined the phrase "heavy metal" and said that Raw Power was the greatest heaavy metal album ever, ergo quiet down pfunkboy

TOO LOW

I just realised I think I voted Back In Black as my #1 vote just because I couldn't be arsed to order my ballot so just did it A-Z.

Lester Bangs coined the phrase "heavy metal"

according to chuck it was actually "Metal" Mike Saunders who coined it.

Can someone explain to me what's supposed to be good about Manila Road please?

rhythm fixated member (chap), Thursday, 12 August 2010 23:21 (thirteen years ago) link

I tried to find that out in the Listening Club and got nowhere. Best explanation was lots of cool people like it and claim it as an influence.

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 12 August 2010 23:21 (thirteen years ago) link

If you don't like Manilla Road, there's something wrong with you.

Seriously, they're the only band I've checked out on either poll so far that has left me scratching my head as to their appeal. Others haven't been my cup of tea, but they sound like a very cheap parody band to me.

Would love to know if it was euros or americans voting for it. Are they well known in the USA outside of the stoner/doom scene?
