Dr. Luke’s highest-profile single this year, for Jennifer Lopez, was met with immediate backlash; a song crediting him has not reached the Top 10 this year.

this is consistent with Luke seeming to get less and less high-profile work over the past few years (it's weird that people cite the J. Lo single as the beginning; this has been happening for several years), though it's hard to say how much of that is blackballing, how much of that is contractual necessities, and how much of that is simple changing tastes. and... like, it's a J. Lo single, it isn't going to reach the Top 10

Changing tastes? Dr. Luke and Max Martin have been ruling the pop music landscape for (checks the release date of "Baby One More Time") seventeen years! And they will doubtless continue churning out hits for seventeen more years. They will never go away.

this is the weirdest fucking take -- denniz pop died in 1998, and virtually all of britney's early-career hits (post-"baby one more time") and most of the backstreet boys and 'n sync's hits were produced by max martin afterward. not sure it's worth rewriting history to play captain save-a-luke
after max's mentor denniz pop died, max struggled to make hits consistently until he joined forces with luke. luke has a great ear for fresh sounds coming from outside the mainstream and a total lack of shame when it comes to appropriating them. they were scammers, not masters— jaime brooks ☭ (@elite_gz) April 30, 2021
