Glad Lysol placed but hoped it would crack the top 100 at least...not only my favourite metal record, but pretty much my favourite record in any genre.

First Melvins one just makes me think of the Lysol Douche thread, ha.

I might actually have to bother to check out Ulver sometime.

Re: Angel Witch, the title track was one of my favourite discoveries from the tracks poll so I definitely plan on checking the album out.

Essential stuff, though it is obviously not metal.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Sunday, 8 August 2010 18:09 (thirteen years ago) link

did 'gluey porch treatments' really come out in '87? wow. i only got this and 'ozma' quite recently and it's really striking how short the songs actually are. at this early point in their career they seem kinda like a metal analogue of webern: deployment of disproportionate resources (webern = orchestra, melvins = massive sludgy, metal riffs and hanging beats) in the creation of exquisite, hypercondensed miniatures.

My #3. Fantastic album, thought it'd be a lot higher. It can't be metal enough for this poll.

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 8 August 2010 19:37 (thirteen years ago) link

Nothing can be metal enough for some metallers.

Absolutely love that Cobalt album. At this rate none of my picks are gonna make the top 100.

As for more extreme stuff placing lower than you expect, a lot of the extreme metal fans don't vote, possibly because an ilm poll wont vote for them. Also quite a few of the rolling metal thread regulars don't post. So I'm surprised the extreme stuff has placed so well til now.

not unhappy but M&D is a great album that I'd imagine a few metal folk are reticent to even hear let alone praise because O'Malley/Anderson have SULLIED THE METAL with AVANT SHIT
