A-Rod in 2010

Shasta, what's wrong with Neyer's comments? I thought what he said was just stating the obvious, unless you think that the idea that ARod might hit 35 HR in a season again is so crazy that it's not worth mentioning.

NEW YORK -- Alex Rodriguez was injured during batting practice before Saturday's Yankees-Red Sox game when a line drive off the bat of Lance Berkman, who was batting right-handed, apparently struck the third baseman on his left shin.

In obvious pain, A-Rod hobbled around on the infield grass for a few seconds before staggering into short centerfield, where he rolled around on the grass before turning face down. Some of Rodriguez' teammates, including Derek Jeter, thought at first that he was joking and yelled some light-hearted insults.

Berkman said his initial thought was: “Oh my gosh, it hit him.” Next, Berkman’s reaction was: “I hope it’s not broken.”

Said Yankees captain Derek Jeter: “He’ll be all right.”

Asked about Rodriguez's reaction to the injury -- he writhed in obvious pain for nearly five minutes before being led off the field -- Jeter said, "He always acts like that when he gets hit."

Many a child has learned how to milk a "boo boo" for a little extra TLC-from the time our children are babies, we parents make a bit of a fuss over them when they get ill or injured and they quickly learn that a physical ailment is a surefire way to get some extra attention. For many parents, we inevitably have to deal with a child faking an illness or injury and depending on how big of a trigger it is for us, we have to figure out how to respond.
