Let's anticipate the monument of 2007, Battles "Mirrored"

Bummed. Even though I still think they are capable of interesting stuff without him, he did bring a much needed charismatic presence when I saw them live.

New album details released. Very interested in the guests.

in retrospect, it's kinda funny how "mirrored" got as much hype as it did

I think I first saw them when they just had the EPs out. Those get criminally underrated.

Yeah the EPs ruled, but I loved Mirrored too. Slightly disappointed about no Tyondai but those guests certainly look promising enough to make up for it.

I dont care less about the guests (I dont even know who they are Numan aside) but I've always been a Battles fan (shit I'm wearing a Battles tshirt as I type) and Mirrored was a great album.

And I have to stress I was SO not into all the Atlas hype at the time, that all completely escaped me. Took me a long time to get into em but I did.

Hope they tour Australia again. They were tight as fuck when I saw them in 2007.

Yeah, I mean, "Atlas" is probably the sixth or seventh best track on Mirrored and I still love it to death. But Mirrored was also my number one album of 2007, so I can't really undersell how much I love it.

Trayce, Yamantaka Eye is the guy from the Boredoms, Aguayo was one of the two dudes in Closer Musik and Kazu is in Blonde Redhead <- all legends imo

New album is pretty fabulous. Gloss Drop kind of passed me by, but this is great - I might even prefer it front-to-back to Mirrored.

This is really playful, feels much lighter-of-touch than some of the early stuff. Feels quite jazzy, which there were always leanings towards, I think.

i'm liking this record more and more. at first sounded like they were on autopilot, but idk, i need to get over thinking they were crippled by tyondai leaving

imo gloss drop was about them getting over tyondai leaving. this is back to heavy instrumental jams and it's sounding great.

IMO Gloss Drop > Mirrored

yeah, didn't they have the record basically in the can when tyondai left, and then replaced all of his parts and vox? i remember being so stoked by video of their set at the Warp anniversary show in 2009, "Ice Cream" particularly, and then the record was just such a let down, tyondai really fucked them

I guess one upside of being a duo is that there's a lot of room for the drums to sound huge
