Mayor Hickenlooper and the liberal agenda (HI DERE), Thursday, 5 August 2010 16:56 (thirteen years ago) link

The only metal tunes I like are "Nothing Else Matters" and "Hero of the Day" by Metallica.

Tuomas, Thursday, 5 August 2010 16:57 (thirteen years ago) link

Nothing in this thread at all so far then?

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 5 August 2010 16:59 (thirteen years ago) link

21 Black Sabbath · Black Sabbath (1970) (558 points · 13 voters) (2 number one votes)

AND there goes my number one pick

― SAUSAGE LIVES ON IN MY HEART (and much of my gi tract prob) (jjjusten)

I was the other #1. Far too low.

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 5 August 2010 16:59 (thirteen years ago) link

Have you ever seen Spinal Tap, Tuomas?

Johnelle Fevráe (Johnny Fever), Thursday, 5 August 2010 16:59 (thirteen years ago) link

The Funkadelic tunes are quite okay, but I don't see how they're metal.

Tuomas, Thursday, 5 August 2010 17:00 (thirteen years ago) link

(x-post)

Yeah, that's a funny movie.

Tuomas, Thursday, 5 August 2010 17:00 (thirteen years ago) link

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 5 August 2010 17:00 (thirteen years ago) link

Saint Vitus - Born Too Late (1986) 563 Points, 18 voters

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6RnRDizzBM0
Every time I'm on the street
People laugh and point at me
They talk about my length of hair
And the out of date clothes I wear

They say I look like the living dead
They say I can't have much in my head
They say my songs are much too slow
But they don't know the things I know

I know I don't belong
And there's nothing I can do
I was born too late
And I'll never be like you

In my life things never change
To everybody I seem strange
But in my world now something's died
So I just stare with these insane eyes

I know I don't belong
And there's nothing that I can do
I was born too late
And I'll never be like you

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 5 August 2010 17:03 (thirteen years ago) link

Saint Vitus is cool and all. I even voted for them, but not above, what, 7 or 8 other Black Sabbath tracks? You people are mad.

Johnelle Fevráe (Johnny Fever), Thursday, 5 August 2010 17:05 (thirteen years ago) link

its called vote splitting, everyone has their own faves

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 5 August 2010 17:07 (thirteen years ago) link

I see this as a positive development in the countdown. Much of the Sabbath vote-splitting is out of the way now. Saint Vitus gets a ton of people rallying behind a common unifying track. I can't listen to this right now, but look forward to it when I get home.

xp

Love that Saint Vitus song, the album it's from roolz

Neil S, Thursday, 5 August 2010 17:11 (thirteen years ago) link

The Funkadelic tunes are quite okay, but I don't see how they're metal.

Yes, that "Super Stupid" is not heavy in the slightest, duh

tom d: he did what he had to do now he is dead (Tom D.), Thursday, 5 August 2010 17:12 (thirteen years ago) link

18 people voted for it, so you cant really argue with it. Plus when do you ever see vitus in an alltime countdown? ILM excelling itself here for now

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 5 August 2010 17:12 (thirteen years ago) link

I love this song, it was very high in my ballot.

Green Manalishi (Viceroy), Thursday, 5 August 2010 17:16 (thirteen years ago) link

Some songs are "canon" within their genre, but aren't well known outside of it. So it surprises some people (especially ones who dont hang out on the rolling metal thread). But if they vote, they get represented, and hurrah for that.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 5 August 2010 17:17 (thirteen years ago) link

Oh, I fully expected "Born Too Late" to show up. But it should probably be somewhere between 51-100.

Johnelle Fevráe (Johnny Fever), Thursday, 5 August 2010 17:19 (thirteen years ago) link

i wasnt really talking about you, you've been known to pop up in that thread!

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 5 August 2010 17:20 (thirteen years ago) link

still in the 80s for the next one btw..

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 5 August 2010 17:21 (thirteen years ago) link

I just realized this countdown is missing "Barracuda". Did anyone even remember to nominate Heart? :(

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 5 August 2010 17:24 (thirteen years ago) link

^ one of my votes btw

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 5 August 2010 17:25 (thirteen years ago) link

Metallica used to be so godlike

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 5 August 2010 17:27 (thirteen years ago) link

I guess the problem here is with metal fans being beholden to their precious albums, and representing those albums at all costs in a tracks poll despite there being so many good or great tracks out there that stand alone whether you have any attachment to the particular album or not.

Johnelle Fevráe (Johnny Fever), Thursday, 5 August 2010 17:28 (thirteen years ago) link

Chicago to Philadelphia: "Suck It" (Bill Magill), Thursday, 5 August 2010 17:29 (thirteen years ago) link

It's the only language Tuomas understands .... apart from Finnish, English and probably a dozen others

tom d: he did what he had to do now he is dead (Tom D.), Thursday, 5 August 2010 17:30 (thirteen years ago) link

I'm guessing Thin Lizzy won't show up on this poll now. How depressing.

Green Manalishi (Viceroy), Thursday, 5 August 2010 17:30 (thirteen years ago) link

eh idk, that definitely wasnt how my ballot worked, but i know theres some stuff in my top 10 that might look like that from a certain perspective, but i was dead serious about it being a trackworthy alltime number idk 8 or whatever.

SAUSAGE LIVES ON IN MY HEART (and much of my gi tract prob) (jjjusten), Thursday, 5 August 2010 17:31 (thirteen years ago) link

My ballot was done in all honesty, thinking in "tracks/singles/songs I love" mode, not trying to get certain artists higher placed or whatever. Metallica fans are starting to just piss me off now.

Green Manalishi (Viceroy), Thursday, 5 August 2010 17:35 (thirteen years ago) link

You cant fuck with these metallica tracks placing (so far at least)
they would grace any metal list.
It's funny though that ppl complain there's too much by x bands but then everytime a Sabbath track places a whole chorus of "too low!" goes up!

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 5 August 2010 17:37 (thirteen years ago) link

that's cuz Sabbath rule

Chicago to Philadelphia: "Suck It" (Bill Magill), Thursday, 5 August 2010 17:38 (thirteen years ago) link

I'd still be happy if my #1 song (a Metallica song) were to place, although I don't hold out much hope.

17 Led Zeppelin · When the Levee Breaks (1971) (569 points · 12 votes - 1 number one vote)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WbrjRKB586s

Pretty sure this is the highest placing "Song stolen from Memphis Minnie and then vaguely repurposed by a bunch of pasty english white dudes" song in the poll.

Of course thats mostly because there weren't any Rolling Stones noms I suppose.

Henry Kvlt Pvp, Thursday, 5 August 2010 17:39 (thirteen years ago) link

The drum sample that made the Beastie Boys famous and served as the backbone for about 20,000 other good to great songs.

Amazing recent performance of Creeping Death in Korea:

I get the shivers when the obviously ecstatic crowd start singing along with the closing riff. They've still got it live.

How to do Youtube links without embed?

rhythm fixated member (chap), Thursday, 5 August 2010 17:51 (thirteen years ago) link

You can do it with BBCode, or people can just copy and paste.

Trujillo's crab stance makes him look like a dumbass.

Johnelle Fevráe (Johnny Fever), Thursday, 5 August 2010 17:54 (thirteen years ago) link

xp he was asking how to post a link W/O embedding the video.

Johnelle Fevráe (Johnny Fever), Thursday, 5 August 2010 17:54 (thirteen years ago) link

Yeah, thought there was a no embedding policy on these threads (except for from the runners, obv).

rhythm fixated member (chap), Thursday, 5 August 2010 17:54 (thirteen years ago) link

Metallica, progenitors of crabcore. You heard it here first.

Henry Kvlt Pvp, Thursday, 5 August 2010 17:55 (thirteen years ago) link

oh i see. never mind me then.

It's like the opposite (but every bit as annoying) as the dude from Dave Matthews Band who lets his bass sit right around his sternum.
