Pretty sure that the markings on this turbonegro fellow are not AKC breed standard.

Sorry I meant to comment there but I started the youtube to check that it was the right one and nodded off.

It's like this song is full of subliminal napping suggestions.
― Henry Kvlt Pvp, Wednesday, 4 August 2010 22:37 (thirteen years ago) link
Just a little statistical note, for anybody outraged by any particular placement: until really the top 3, this whole race is extremely close. There are three 10-vote songs outside the top 100, and two 12-vote songs in the top 20. A single extra voter could have pushed that Turbonegro song from 42 to 31, and a second one could have gotten it to 22!

Outside of GNR, this poll is seriously lacking in proper hair metal. I thought an ILM poll would be the best chance of anywhere for it make a respectable showing.
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 4 August 2010 22:42 (thirteen years ago) link
I voted for some hair metal stuff -- lets see if Quiet Riot ends up on the list.

Man, doubtful Black Blade will place now...
― Green Manalishi (Viceroy), Wednesday, 4 August 2010 23:00 (thirteen years ago) link
I'm glad there is a commercially available radio edit of "Reaper" that strips out the weirdo doom solo part in the middle, because sometimes I want to hear it and sometimes I don't. It's almost like two different songs (with solo/without solo).
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 4 August 2010 23:00 (thirteen years ago) link
I think the mere idea of a "radio edit" for a hard rock epic is an outright abomination.

39 Sleep - Dragonaut (1993) (440 Points, 11 voters)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EkFs9_kytAg
Now this is some heavy shit!!! This is such an amazing track... makes me wonder if Dopesmoker will make a surprise highly-placed position. But maybe people didn't vote for a lot of 20+ minute songs like I did...

its better than the #38 falser than false track

but this was the only sleep track nominated.

but it rules so much.

38 Rush · Tom Sawyer (1981) (points 448 · 12 votes)
I know that people say that metal people are sexist, but I think that having a song with a female lead singer place this high in our countdown proves them wrong.
Sadly the original as you well know is unlistenable, so here is a better more metal version for you all.

― Henry Kvlt Pvp, Wednesday, 4 August 2010 23:33 (thirteen years ago) link
This is your falseness? This song most definitely deserves to be here. More than TWO Manilla Roads and TWO Celtic Frosts do, anyway.
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 4 August 2010 23:35 (thirteen years ago) link
(And one really not-heavy not-good Manics song.)
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 4 August 2010 23:36 (thirteen years ago) link
The synth solos are classic man! If you don't think synth solos are "hard" or "metal" than I think you need to reconsider your life.
― Green Manalishi (Viceroy), Wednesday, 4 August 2010 23:36 (thirteen years ago) link
def. not false or weak. Rush had harder tracks though...
"Tom Sawyer" is totally awesome, WTF.

here's a real version:

― Green Manalishi (Viceroy), Wednesday, 4 August 2010 23:38 (thirteen years ago) link
I mean, everything about it is awesome. When I got my first (& so far only) Moog synth, loads of years ago, I was really pleased with it b/c it did a 100% emulation of the Tom Sawyer noise.
― Take my hand, we'll make it I swear (Pashmina), Wednesday, 4 August 2010 23:39 (thirteen years ago) link
People, we can't reason with someone who thinks Manilla Road is ALL TIME great.
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 4 August 2010 23:40 (thirteen years ago) link
Sorry to cause such turmoil, I just figured that anyone that hadn't heard the real version of Tom Sawyer should spend less time cliking youtube links and more time trying to figure out how to escape the locked safe they had been trapped in since birth.
― Henry Kvlt Pvp, Wednesday, 4 August 2010 23:44 (thirteen years ago) link
Eh, there's a shittier band with THREE SONGS still to come!
The absence of women from this poll is glaring even compared to normal metal proportions. None in the top 100 so far, and I won't spoil the suspense, but there aren't a lot of them still to come...
