I just noticed that Shivers, which is on my list, is a Barbara Steele film too.

KitCat, Thursday, 20 September 2007 20:30 (sixteen years ago) link

She has a really nice nose.
Interesting:
James Poe wrote an excellent role for Barbara in "They Shoot Horses, Don't They?" (1969). The role ended up going to Susannah York, and Barbara wouldn't act in movies again for 5 years.

Btw, why didn't anyone tell me that Busy Philips is on ER? I wasn't prepared to flip channels one day and see her taking a bubble bath.

So is Linda Cardellini!

So, Dan, are you coming to our Barbara Steele moviethon?

KitCat, Thursday, 20 September 2007 20:38 (sixteen years ago) link

Sure, why not!

Do you own any of her movies, A?

KitCat, Thursday, 20 September 2007 20:50 (sixteen years ago) link

Nope. But I've seen some.

I even saw one recently -- it also had Vincent Price in it. Don't remember what it was called...

La Lechera, Thursday, 20 September 2007 20:52 (sixteen years ago) link

HA for a second I read "Do you own any of her motives", and thought about standardized Motive Profiles, which you could download.

kenan, Thursday, 20 September 2007 20:53 (sixteen years ago) link

Hey is anyone else going to see the National on Saturday? Anyone besides the two people I am going with that also read this thread, that is.

dan m, Thursday, 20 September 2007 20:54 (sixteen years ago) link

Where? Who else is playing?
I'm trying to get some peeps to go see BdRole tomorrow night.

KitCat, Thursday, 20 September 2007 20:58 (sixteen years ago) link

Those two shows would make for a fabulous weekend.

KitCat, Thursday, 20 September 2007 20:58 (sixteen years ago) link

WHERE IST THE NATIONAL PLAYING?

I love their newest album, I think it might be my fave of the year right now. However, I have suspicions that they might be boring live.

n/a, Thursday, 20 September 2007 21:03 (sixteen years ago) link

I forgot to say earlier but I want to do SOMETHING fun Saturday night to celebrate being done with GRE (unless I do bad and decide to take it again).

n/a, Thursday, 20 September 2007 21:05 (sixteen years ago) link

It's at the Vic. I'm not sure who else is playing.

dan m, Thursday, 20 September 2007 21:09 (sixteen years ago) link

OH NOES. When we saw Sp00n there it was a sit-down snorefest (Sp00n were still great though).

KitCat, Thursday, 20 September 2007 21:10 (sixteen years ago) link

Well it was our choice to sit down. You can stand up downstairs.

n/a, Thursday, 20 September 2007 21:12 (sixteen years ago) link

Sit down upstairs vs. stand up downstairs

REGRET.

How does the service work, exactly? “We get the customer's vehicle home so they don't need to take a cab back to their car in the morning, remember where they left the car, pay for any tickets or towing fees they may have received and most importantly, so they don’t drive drunk,” explains Campbell. “Our drivers use folding mopeds to get to your location. Upon meeting you at your vehicle they will fold their moped up and store it in a travel bag which goes in the trunk of your car. Once you reach your destination, your driver will hand you the keys, unfold the moped and be off to the next customer.”

And don’t worry, they’re all fully insured. Plus, when they come to pick up your drunk ass, these charming ladies and gents all wear tuxedo shirts.

This sounds awesome!

Jordan, Thursday, 20 September 2007 21:20 (sixteen years ago) link

thanks for the job tips you guys, i'll email soon.

toby had me read the 'zings' thread because he knows i love kicking and screaming. but i don't want to post on that thread, so i'll say it here.

dan, i thought you were talking about a horse race or some other sporting event, rather than a band.

colette, Thursday, 20 September 2007 21:26 (sixteen years ago) link

That reminds me: there are 4 remaining Fire home games this year. They are on 9/23 (this coming Sunday), 10/6, 10/10, and 10/21. The latter is probably sold out (vs. LA Galaxy even though Beckham is unlikely to play). The 10/10 game is a friendly vs. a Mexican team. I want to go to at least one of these games, but Sunday is probably out of the question. Anyone who wants to go with, email me: thedanmartin at gmail dot com.

dan m, Thursday, 20 September 2007 21:34 (sixteen years ago) link

Longshot here, but do any of you know anything about the laws regarding who can officiate a wedding in Michigan? I've looked up several resources onling but I seem to be getting conflicting information and convuloted answers. Basically, we want a friend of ours to marry us next summer. We were hoping she could just do what she needed to do get a justice of the peace or whatever, but it seems pretty clear MI doesn't have that. Anybody happen to know a way around this?

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Thursday, 20 September 2007 21:34 (sixteen years ago) link

Also they are on ESPN2 tonight vs. Dallas. I am going to try and get the bar to turn it on if there are TVs.

xp: I think they're pretty lax. Two separate friends of mine have performed weddings after getting certified online.

also what que said

dan m, Thursday, 20 September 2007 21:37 (sixteen years ago) link

Jordan, there's one of those in New Jersey, too -- except without the mopeds.

jaymc, Thursday, 20 September 2007 21:38 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm pretty sure Larry Bell is de facto authorized to marry people in MI.

Jordan, Thursday, 20 September 2007 21:38 (sixteen years ago) link

jon, my best friend bill is presiding over the ceremony of his wife's best friend and her fiancee in michigan this weekend. i'm watching their dogs while they're away so i'll ask them when i see them.

to the best of my knowledge bill is not a member of the clergy, a judge, or sea captain.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 20 September 2007 21:38 (sixteen years ago) link

Wingman, nice. The one here is apparently called the Bender Defenders.

Jordan, Thursday, 20 September 2007 21:39 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm pretty sure Larry Bell is de facto authorized to marry people in MI.

We're playing at Bell's on Oct. 12. I am STOKED.

jaymc, Thursday, 20 September 2007 21:41 (sixteen years ago) link

Kevin, that would be great. Sounds exactly like what we are planning to do.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Thursday, 20 September 2007 21:41 (sixteen years ago) link

Aw, I am jealous. The band used to play there back in the day (and is playing on the jukebox during the Bell's part of that beer documentary), but I never have.

Jordan, Thursday, 20 September 2007 21:42 (sixteen years ago) link

Oh yeah, my sister's wedding was performed by her husband's cousin and I am nearly certain she (the cousin) got certified online too.

dan m, Thursday, 20 September 2007 21:42 (sixteen years ago) link

Katie just reminded me that I can't go to the 10/6 Fire game. Fuck.

dan m, Thursday, 20 September 2007 21:43 (sixteen years ago) link

If anyone in the band is going to K-zoo and back home the same night, I would be up for a road trip.

Eazy, Thursday, 20 September 2007 21:44 (sixteen years ago) link

I think Jeremy might be coming back that night, EZ. I'm probably going to stay, just so I can hang out and get drunk. The show is technically part of the Class of 1997's 10-year reunion (although it's open to the public, too), so there might be some old faces in the crowd.

jaymc, Thursday, 20 September 2007 21:48 (sixteen years ago) link

kraftbrau in k-zoo closes this weekend i think? landlord wants an insane amount in rent so they're being forced out.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 20 September 2007 21:49 (sixteen years ago) link

Oh really?? That's a shame. I wonder where the indie rock shows are going to go. Maybe back to Club Soda.

jaymc, Thursday, 20 September 2007 21:51 (sixteen years ago) link

Oh shit, Club Soda closed, too.

jaymc, Thursday, 20 September 2007 21:53 (sixteen years ago) link

try lansing. one of the dude's who booked the place (bl@ck j@ck) is going to try to book in lansing until kraftbrau's owners find a new place (and if it's suitable).

chicago kevin, Thursday, 20 September 2007 21:55 (sixteen years ago) link

huh, guess i should've read the link. when i first heard the owners were up in the air about re-opening.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 20 September 2007 21:58 (sixteen years ago) link

Yeah, I'm just sad for kids in Kzoo. Kraftbrau didn't even host touring bands when I lived there, but I did see Blonde Redhead and Tortoise at Club Soda. It was nice not to have to drive to Chicago to see good live music.

jaymc, Thursday, 20 September 2007 22:00 (sixteen years ago) link

Dan -- when you are planning on getting to the bar?

jaymc, Thursday, 20 September 2007 22:03 (sixteen years ago) link

Um, leaving here within the half hour, so probably by about 6.

dan m, Thursday, 20 September 2007 22:04 (sixteen years ago) link

OK, like I said, I'll prob. be there closer to 6:30.

jaymc, Thursday, 20 September 2007 22:06 (sixteen years ago) link
