can we change thread title to "brett favre is taking pics"

righteous lecoq (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 5 August 2010 06:02 (thirteen years ago) link

i really hope brett doesn't retire -- two reasons

1 the league is more fun with him in it -- the vikings are a cool team, don't want to see them saddled with fucking sage rosenfels, their games vs green bay are inherently mega epic if favre is playing and of course nothing in the world is funnier than favreceptions -- i wouldn't trade anything in the world for favre's interception against the saints last year

2 it's hilarious to see espn falling all over itself in an effort to be ahead of the favre retirement story. they had people eulogizing his career within the second... it's like they put out a bat signal over bristol and all ex-players assembled in the studio to lick his nutsack. you would think that at this point they would play it cool with this kinda thing, but no, and it never gets old

righteous lecoq (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 5 August 2010 06:05 (thirteen years ago) link

brett: in it for the lulz

I've come to consider him a reality tv star more than an athlete, and it actually makes me sorta like him?

iatee, Thursday, 5 August 2010 14:06 (thirteen years ago) link

idk i think he's pretty pathetic and unlikeable

righteous lecoq (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 5 August 2010 14:09 (thirteen years ago) link

i think hes pathetic and sorta likeable. i really dont get the indignant part of the outrage, unless you are his employer or a fan under 13 years of age.

I think he's pathetic and unlikeable too! but like a good reality tv bad guy.

iatee, Thursday, 5 August 2010 15:50 (thirteen years ago) link

that deadspin story is just generally kind of ugh...it's amazing how the "reporter" there managed to make himself the most unlikeable member of the trio.

If I wasn't listening to the soothing ambient noise of super-slow Justin Bieber right now, I would probably be yelling some sort of profanity.

a little late but important:

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) - It looks like Brett Favre is having some fun with his will-he-or-won't-he drama.

Favre's website posted a message Tuesday saying "stay tuned for breaking news from the Minnesota Vikings today on Brett Favre's
possible return."

fun!

Favre's return to the field comes on the one-year anniversary of the day he signed a two-year, $25 million contract with the Vikings.

Favre reportedly will get a pay raise for returning to the 2010 season. Favre, who was scheduled to make $13 million this season, will have his base salary bumped to $16.5 million, the (Minneapolis) Star Tribune reported.

Favre also will have $3.5 million in incentives added to his contract, based on postseason success, the Star Tribune reported, potentially boosting his 2010 salary to $20 million.

returning is such a big risk. despite the final interception, he had an amazing 2009 season. hard to choose not to go out on such a high-note.

Daniel, Esq., Wednesday, 18 August 2010 22:08 (thirteen years ago) link

He's going to end up playing so long that he gets benched.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 18 August 2010 22:13 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah. i mean, you're obv. kidding, but that kind of steep decline is very possible. makes me wonder why he doesn't just retire.

i guess you can say the same thing about a lot of aging star athletes. say shaq, but at least he's not attempting to be the focal point of his team (or even the starter as his position on the team).

Daniel, Esq., Wednesday, 18 August 2010 22:15 (thirteen years ago) link
