That is a great song. As is Achilles.

Haven't heard that Entombed for years. 100% rocking.

This is music for old people who are old. You can call it a classic, but I guarantee that once Chinese Democracy hits the stores no one will even remember this song.

Ugh. Most boring song on here by a band not named Manic Street Preachers.

Achilles was my #2 and one of my only 2 nominations, awesome to see it this high

the older the voter, the less likely they were to vote for a track after 1990

Okay, I have caught up:

Hawkwind – Silver Machine: Yeah! This is a killer track. Give me some more of those whoosh space noises and I will be happy for the rest of the day. Have extra special fondness for this as when my band were just getting together we used to muck about playing this for hours in the practice rooms. To be honest, I could probably just listen to this on repeat instead of carrying on down the list. But carry on I shall!

AC/DC – You Shook Me All Night Long: Urgh, frat blues rock. Perfect for jocks to leer at women to. It sounds like sexual harassment at skanky bars.

High On Fire – 10,000 Years: I’ve always been sad that this band are not named after the Telescopes song. I think this might be the best one of the stoner stuff so far. Although that’s not saying much, and I still don’t really get the appeal. Is it pretty much a necessity that one is stoned while listening to this genre?

Judas Priest – Victim of Changes: Hmmm, I dunno. Can’t really think of anything interesting to say about this one. It’s not doing very much. Oh, at 4 minutes something it’s gone all phase-y in my headphones, that’s interesting. Looking it up on Wikipedia, I see this is some sort of mash-up of two songs to make an epic-length song, huh? I’m not sure it works.

Cromagnon – Caledonia: Surely my jubilation earlier is enough? If you haven’t listened to this yet, go do it. My favourite proto-death metal experimental bagpipe tune of all time. OF ALL TIME.

Led Zeppelin – Dazed and Confused: I don’t like Led Zeppelin. This seems more boring than excruciating at first listen, however. I must confess I’m not sure how I’m supposed to get through all 20-odd minutes of it, though. Okay, how about this, if anything interesting happens after the 6 minute mark, someone tell me and I’ll have a listen, because so far this is very tedious.

Jane’s Addiction – Three Days: The beginning of this sounds much more interesting than the last Jane’s Addiction track, though I’m worried it may go into some sort of terrible ballad. Oh, hello 1:00, you have confirmed my fear. Sorry, your nice ambient multi-layered background vocal trick can’t save this. Ah but okay, so it changes again. The beat is alright here and the vocals a bit better. Argh, but terrible guitar solo comes in. Now I am so confused, there are bits I like about this and bits I think are just dreadful. The not-good bits seem to last much much longer, though, so I think they have won.

Led Zeppelin – Achilles Last Stand: ilx doesn’t seem to like a very varied selection of bands, does it? (Not that I can talk, I had loads of multiples in my ballot.) I still don’t like Led Zeppelin. Am I caught up with the poll results yet? *clicks* Nope, the sheer length of these songs means I have more.

Entombed – Left Hand Path: Now that’s what I call cookie monster. I hereby call it that Entombed are better than Led Zep. In case there is any confusion, this is because Led Zeppelin are rubbish. Actually, also because it turns into music from The Exorcist about 4 minutes in. Where did that come from?

Guns ‘N Roses – Paradise City: This is just a bad song. So much boring stuff in here, guys! I was expecting a metal poll to have more lunacy and witchcraft.

I'm assuming this is the right video, all the rest of the ones that popped up were some creepy old mechanic looking dude playing a cover with his kid.

This is so on the money.

did you not see the songs that were nominated; it was basically "everyone's favorite hobby horse + 60 songs/bands whose appearance on this list are inevitable"

i'm not a big metal fan and am still following this poll with interest, but why the fuck would you even read this thread if you don't like Zep

The chickbad from the ludicrous 'ludacris' song (some dude), Wednesday, 4 August 2010 18:49 (thirteen years ago) link

I know! Although I perhaps chose the wrong act to level that at - I mean, I might not like G'n'R, but they are a ridiculously famous band, so I shouldn't begrudge them their places here.

Because it's not the Top 100 Led Zeppelin Tracks of All-Time, and I might like some other stuff here?

Sorry, I realize that I've said "played out" twice already on this thread.

Everybody had the chance to nominate songs.

I don't think there was a lack of cool stuff in the noms, really, but I don't know. I was hoping for more insight into what the metal dudes liked. And I realize in my ballot, that I nom'd some hair metal and classic rock stuff too, but I think it was less obvious stuff than Paradise City and Back in Black. I'm not totally disappointed, because this poll has tipped me off to some interesting stuff. But it's just like, "Wow - Back in Black, huh?"

This is a song about rockets. Did you know that people shot a dog named Laika into space and then never got her back? Humans are dicks.

the next song is absolutely brilliant and I'm so glad to see it place.
I didn't vote for it though, It was one I cut as I thought it wouldnt make it so chose another song by the band (that actually placed earlier) so shows how much I know!

It's gotten some love from non-metal/hard rock denizens of ILM. But maybe a leap of faith.

Never heard of Manilla Road before this. That's better than the first one. Are they NWOBH? They sound quite a lot like Spinal Tap.

Probably the best cult heavy metal band in america.
