Are we all aboard for #80?

80.

Man, Quiet Riot II is just such a disappointing album cover. Like, from a thumbnail jpg, I was like "Whoa, good idea: chicks with football uniforms." but then I opened it up and nope, it was dudes. That's my long way of saying R.I.P. Randy Rhodes. Crazy Train feels played to me these days, but that riff is fucking huge.

kkvgz, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 17:20 (thirteen years ago) link

That Hendrix clip is great, and sterling work by Lulu on the link too. I don't think I even voted for it, shame on me.

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 17:22 (thirteen years ago) link

It is a great riff, but solo Ozzy never really did much for me.

Chicago to Philadelphia: "Suck It" (Bill Magill), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 17:22 (thirteen years ago) link

And by the way, can I give a shout out to Henry, the host? What a phenomenal job he is doing.

Chicago to Philadelphia: "Suck It" (Bill Magill), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 17:23 (thirteen years ago) link

lol I really thought I'd voted for "Welcome to the Jungle" and "Crazy Train" but they must have been in the 8 I sacrificed off the end of my ballot

Mayor Hickenlooper and the liberal agenda (HI DERE), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 17:25 (thirteen years ago) link

After watching that clip I think part of my anti-solo Ozzy coincides with the death of Randy Rhoades. Damn was that guy good.

Probably would've only voted for one or both of the Seps so far.

Ok, now here we go. Serious tunes. I actually voted for Super Stupid and not Children, because my ballot was pretty Sabbath heavy. But this list just officially started, in my opinion.

Chicago to Philadelphia: "Suck It" (Bill Magill), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 18:40 (thirteen years ago) link

Funkadelic was nom'd??

ilxor has truly been got at and become an ILXor (ilxor), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 18:40 (thirteen years ago) link

Have you heard that song?

Chicago to Philadelphia: "Suck It" (Bill Magill), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 18:40 (thirteen years ago) link

I thought Children Of The Grave would be higher, they basically invented stoner metal over the course of 5 minutes in that song.

A prog venn diagram for you to think about (Matt #2), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 18:42 (thirteen years ago) link

And Funkadelic basically invented funk metal with that song, for better or worse (worse really).

I mostly like Danzig because he likes doggies also you can tell that he was the runt of his litter so it is inspiring to see him try so hard.

Henry Kvlt Pvp, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 19:02 (thirteen years ago) link

I have voted for a grand total of one in this poll so far. But then, I don't think I voted for any *actual* metal.

emil.y, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 19:04 (thirteen years ago) link

Oh man would have liked to see refuse/resist higher, fucking love that song. Good to be reminded of Angel Witch, a song I completely love but never listen to because uh i dont know im stupid i guess.

Mayor Hickenlooper and the liberal agenda (HI DERE), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 19:22 (thirteen years ago) link

Sorry dudes, Henry is kind of a hardliner. A while ago he asked to get a tattoo of the Kill Em All album cover and when I said he was too young he waited until I was out of the room and pooped in my Zeppelin box set.

CHEESECAKE VOTING FRUIT HATING SCUM (jjjusten), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 19:25 (thirteen years ago) link

Does Metallica ever cover classic literature anymore? I'm not familiar with the new stuff, but I can credit them for inspiring me to pick up Johnny Got His Gun, Ernest Hemingway, the Bible, and H.P. Lovecraft. The video with all the movie clips in it is great.

This was my favorite Metallica song when I was 10. I probably related to it because it was so melancholy. I love the clean solo that Kirk does in the intro. I think it drags a bit in the main body of the song; it didn't bother me then, but listening with 2010 ears I think Hetfield's singing here may be one of the earliest direct antecedents to Nickelback. The end is a blast though. Duga-dah-duga-dah-DUN! Duga-dah-duga-dah-DUN!

I just went and looked at my ballot and One was #6 on my list. I didn't even remember that I voted for it. LOL @ hasty shuffling.
