I think "Groove is in the Heart" uses a sample from Herbie Hancock "Bring Down the Birds" from the Blowup sndtrk.

Was "Peaches" by the Stranglers mentioned on this thread (I can't be arsed, but it didn't leap out in a cursory scan)?

I really want to find the mix of 'We're Ready' that's just the trumpet sample for about 2 minutes then that pulverising bassline alone with some subtle little high hat ticks. It's at the start of the Slimzee mix from Richie Vibe Vee's 1Xtra show - does anyone know it?

This thread should be made up entirely of UKG from the last 2 years.
I'd like to submit Danny Weed's 'Creeper' as best cello -> dirty sub bass segue ever. Who needs a beat when the bass is THIS good?

hydra - grover washington jr

it is good - burning spear - especially the part where the chorus breaks back into the verse

maybe not 'bassline' but 'bass part':
changeling - dj shadow
airbag - radiohead

which are very similar to me in terms of how the bass is working

ron (ron), Sunday, 8 June 2003 18:11 (twenty years ago) link

wiley seriously has the most fucked up "basslines"...they don't sound the least bit "natural", i can't possibly figure out how you'd "play" them, and they sound like nothing else i've ever heard really

(this post brought to you by scare quotes, inc.)

Darren mentions In Trance As Mission. I remember humming that bassline to myself in the queue for drinks at a cricket match once and the bloke behind me says: Is that In Trance As Mission by Simple Minds? You can imagine the surprised yelping and gasping that ensued.

If nothing else, this anecdote certainly illustrates the distinctive nature of that bassline.

"Ceremony" -- New Order

I believe you are mistaking the bass for the guitar (or I'm calling you out on an uninspired choice). Great song nonetheless.
