I couldn't decide between the original & the sequel... the original one has better music, funnier King rants & intermissions, and makes a stranger, weirder first impression
But there are so many more worlds in this version, you can play for much longer and just get lost... and the graphics are markedly sharper this time, no more lo-res artifacts, the angled katamari shapes you can roll up on the Origami level are just _impossible_
I only have the extended rip from the game itself, not the CD soundtrack, but here's the racing level

Some enterprising gamer rigged up a Goldbergian cheat in order to collect one million roses in the We Love Katamari game, sequel to the sleeper hit Katamari Damacy. Once he had collected his one millionth rose, he got a special thank you from the King of All Cosmos, pictured at right. Here’s a description of the trick:
”On Friday night I hooked up a PS2 controller to a sturdy wooden chair with some string so it is immobile. I then taped the left analog stick in the forward direction. Then I put an oscilating fan in front of the controler-chair setup. To the fan, I attached a string with a loop on the end of it. I put this loop around the other analog controller so that when the fan oscilates, it pulls the stick in different directions.”
[Here’s a video of the cheat in action.]
PC gamers would have just rustled up a special script to perform the repetitive action, but console gamers have to be much more creative.

Keita Takahashi, the creator of Katamari Damacy, recently told the BBC that he plans to leave the gaming industry to pursue a career in playground design: “In 10 years time, I am not going to be making games any more… I would like to create a playground for children… an undulating one, with bumps.” Takahashi holds a degree in sculpture design and believes that children should spend more time playing in the physical (read: outside) world. His presence in the “virtual” world will be sorely missed.

Would anyone have a decent or working PAL copy of the original Katamari Damacy to sell? I can't seem to find one anywhere!!
― kv_nol, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 11:33 (sixteen years ago) link
Crap. Just checked wikipedia:
The original game did not get a release in PAL territories such as Europe and Australia, since publishers thought it was too "quirky" for these markets
FU marketing!
― kv_nol, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 11:37 (sixteen years ago) link
I like the implication there that the U.S. is more into quirky than Europe or Australia!
― Daniel_Rf, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 12:51 (sixteen years ago) link
I don't because it means that I don't get to play the first Katamari!
― kv_nol, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 13:01 (sixteen years ago) link
Please convince me that Beautiful Katamari may somehow make it to Europe.
There's no release date and the "EU TBA" notice on gamefaqs has been quietly dropped :(

Now THIS is exciting (from ign)...
PlayStation Premier: Katamari Damacy Creator Delivers New PS3 Game First artwork for Nobi Nobi Boy by Anoop Gantayat
US, July 17, 2007 - Bandai Namco Games unleashed a big surprise at Sony's PlayStation Premier event today in Tokyo with the announcement of an all new game from Katamari Damacy creator Keita Takahashi.
Titled Nobi Nobi Boy, all we have on this PlayStation 3 title are just a couple of pieces of artwork. The artwork and name ("Nobi" can mean "to stretch" in Japanese) suggests that the game will center around a flexible wormlike creature of some form.
We expect more details to surface shortly, so be sure and check back soon!

"The Wonderful End Of The World"
katamari for the PC, available through Steam. but reports suggest it's way too easy and nowhere near as good as the katamari games. Anyone played it here?

Just got Katamari Reroll for the Switch. It’s real cheap so if you like the series I’d recommend it. All the music is from the first game but I think the levels are new. Controls are more unwieldy than I remembered them being but the game is still a lot of fun. Nothing like the satisfaction of rolling up something you thought was a bit too big or getting to that giant size where you can get pretty much everything. Also I admire this games commitment to never having anything make any goddamn sense at all.

It's the original game remastered isn't it? I've been stuck a while on it. First time playing. But i don't mind. Could listen to the soundtrack forever.
