I am squealing with excitement!

Go out and buy one then, there aren't many to go round. The first EP is pretty raw sounding pop, not very dancy considering the parties involved.

Most Moloko I've heard has been sort of mediocre

You are either insane, or you haven't been listening as well as I have... ;-)

They are brilliant. Message ends

The EPs seem to only be v.expensive 12" but they are beautifully packaged, I understand the whole album is out in EP form early this year and then album follows later on. WANT.

Oh, I definitely haven't! I've only heard a few tracks, mostly the ones with hip-hop guests (Kweli etc.).

Jordan (Jordan), Saturday, 22 January 2005 20:18 (nineteen years ago) link

Moloko & Talib Kweli? You've got to be mistaken...

JoB (JoB), Saturday, 22 January 2005 22:23 (nineteen years ago) link

five months pass...
So, would anyone agree that the following is the dumbest move ever made by a major label -- Warner Bros. kicking Moloko off the label in America just before their second album came out EVEN THOUGH "Sing It Back" was a #1 Billboard dance hit?

SINGLES COMP IS OUT

Surprise surprise, it's awesome.

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Monday, 31 July 2006 19:42 (seventeen years ago) link

wish they'd packaged it with a little more joi di vivre, but yeah I'll definitely be getting that sometime soon.

fandango (fandango), Monday, 31 July 2006 20:50 (seventeen years ago) link

but why's it in THE WRONG BLOODY ORDER???

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 31 July 2006 20:56 (seventeen years ago) link

I went to the store today and had no idea the best of was out. Why do they not promote these things? Anyways, I was giddy. "Fun For Me" is absolutely fantastic, and "Cannot Contain This" is crazy infectious. Oh and PURE PLEASURE SEEKER THE SEXIEST SONG EVER OR WHAT? but they have the wrong mix of "Sing It Back" :(.

danzig (danzig), Sunday, 6 August 2006 08:14 (seventeen years ago) link

I looked at this and could have sworn "Dominoid" is missing.

"Dominoid" is missing. I was sad.

btw Lex was completely OTM about me loving "Forever More"

(revived because "The Time Is Now" popped up on my Last.fm station)

Always had a soft spot for Moloko. I like her voice.

Thanks Stan - was greatly bummed to miss seeing her in London.

'forever more' is so fucking epic. the piano!! statues is a greatly underrated album.

lex pretend, Saturday, 6 December 2008 14:27 (fifteen years ago) link

I like this Murphy.

Dimension 5ive, Saturday, 6 December 2008 17:21 (fifteen years ago) link

But I think I like her backup singers better...and she needs to do a big shoutout to Stop Making Sense too.

Dimension 5ive, Saturday, 6 December 2008 17:27 (fifteen years ago) link

the francois k remix of 'forevermore' is one of my all-time favourites. i don't think i've heard the original.

The one-two punch of "I Want You" and "Over and Over" is incredible - the way the strings on the outro to the former bleed into the latter is a masterclass in pop songwriting

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Wednesday, 4 April 2018 19:23 (six years ago) link

I have a couple of Moloko albums, but I see 'em more as an act that could be strong on individual tracks but not over the course of a full-length.

Le Baton Rose (Turrican), Wednesday, 4 April 2018 19:27 (six years ago) link

^ think that’s fair

Eris (Ross), Wednesday, 4 April 2018 19:29 (six years ago) link

Though things to make and do is wicked

Eris (Ross), Wednesday, 4 April 2018 19:29 (six years ago) link

The best of their stuff really is great, though. A compilation of their best tracks would be amazing.

Le Baton Rose (Turrican), Wednesday, 4 April 2018 19:45 (six years ago) link

Recently discovered the Salt City Orchestra edit of 'Knee Deepen' which makes me wish I'd listened to All Back To The Mine remix comp properly when it came out. (Almost) needless to say this is nothing like the original version.

― flamenco drop (BradNelson)

Yeah, this. Statues is close to perfect and almost as good as Overpowered. None of the others come close.

kitchen person, Wednesday, 4 April 2018 22:21 (six years ago) link

Statues is certainly my favourite Moloko album and I probably like it more than any of Roisin's solo work too. such an incredible album

Sha Sha ft. DJ Maphorisa & Kabza De Small • Sing It Back

“Sing It Back”, repurposed as a gospel workout, lyrics slighly tweaked.

Soweto Central Chorus of the Salvation Army ft. Samthing Soweto • Bring It Back

(or here, in footage from the concert itself, starting at 55:12): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJxmbsgD-Fc

Don’t know if this version predates the much more faithful (!) Sha Sha cover or not (it looks like it was recorded last year as well) - Samthing and Sha Sha are only one step removed from each other obviously.
