"SLU" prob shouldn't count but I voted for it cos i9t's v easily the best record ever released

President Evil, Sunday, 22 April 2007 04:12 (sixteen years ago) link

i dont understand why im the only one here who think "Veterans of Disorder" is royal's masterpiece.
mysteries of life

I could almost vote for "Radio/Video". That record is insanely good.

President Evil, Sunday, 22 April 2007 04:34 (sixteen years ago) link

despite appearance as plot element in "High Fidelity"

sexyDancer, Sunday, 22 April 2007 14:28 (sixteen years ago) link

i wonder if i'll be the only one who votes 'accelerator.' the fake 80s production still gets me -- when the all the noise stops for those split second breaks during "banana question" i still feel like i'm listening to it for the first time. and "stevie" still brings tears to my eyes. if we were doing a 'best song' though i might go with "faca amolada" on 'singles' since it showed in three minutes how well they could do pretty, which rendered all the noise sorta more interesting to me

TWIN INFINITIVES

still haven't heard anything after thank you though (s/l/u aside)

i wonder which s/t got the votes

sexyDancer, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 21:59 (sixteen years ago) link

seven years pass...

Cats and Dogs is like an entire album that sounds like "Can't You Hear Me Knocking?" Total sonic amazement.

that one and Thank You are the most straight-up rock 'n roll and possibly my favourites as a result

Barry Gordy (Neil S), Friday, 29 August 2014 10:38 (nine years ago) link

i probably have played the dogs of love EP more than any other

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Friday, 29 August 2014 10:47 (nine years ago) link

3 Song EP is fuckin' a as well

Barry Gordy (Neil S), Friday, 29 August 2014 11:01 (nine years ago) link

untitled (2nd s/t) is my favorite. short, a little uneven within that (hey, it suits them), just starting to get their sound together, but damn i love those songs: "lightning boxer", "air", "sometimes", "junkie nurse", "blood flowers", "hallucination". so sexy, sad & crushed. excellent work for years after, but i don't think they ever topped it.

cats and dogs an almost impossibly close 2nd. if "cleveland" and "steal yr face" were on it, might swing the other way.

slight drop down to thank you & accelerator.

Veterans of Disorder and Pound for Pound are like one (awesome) album for me, I can't remember which songs are on which and I probably got them at the same time.

Immediate Follower (NA), Friday, 29 August 2014 14:40 (nine years ago) link

there's a slight drop-off in form with those last two IMO, but yeah they're still great. I remember "Waterslide" got a load of daytime play on Radio 1 when it was released as a single because Mark Radcliffe was a fan, it was weird/cool hearing them on the radio.

air air air air air air
air air, i love you

air air air air air air
air air, she needs it too

^ my all-time favorite RT lyrics, next to the "if you can fly, or collapse all of the time" stanza of "cleveland"

rockist raccoon (Drugs A. Money), Saturday, 30 August 2014 07:00 (nine years ago) link

always Cats & Dogs but the triple album kills - cover of Suicide is painless is wonderful.

here for it

I will read your opinions, and possibly offer my own if I am so motivated.

Can Butch Vig not do "dynamimcs"? (morrisp), Tuesday, 15 September 2020 18:14 (three years ago) link

I do that every so often and opine to myself but I generally start with Cats & Dogs when I do. It's a worthy exercise imo.
