So... those plasticky boxes in record shops that look like packaging for old BBC Micro games, they're tapes of raves?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 7 June 2004 19:30 (nineteen years ago) link

you guys might wander over to osa

also, there's another site i have bookmarked at home with LOADS of old tapes that have been ripped to .ra, .mp3 and the like - you can even stream them. i'll try to remember to post when i get home

long acid track at the end

charltonlido (gareth), Friday, 11 June 2004 18:47 (nineteen years ago) link

My favorite one is Daft Punk on 4 decks but I haven't listened to it---or any other tapes---in years, and if I do I'll probably be disappointed. So I won't.

oops (Oops), Friday, 11 June 2004 19:09 (nineteen years ago) link

i'll put up another track from the set later, maybe we can get one of them id'ed eventually!

anyone else dl the whole set off me on slsk yet?

Re. the 'vacant spacey one'. I was never into going to clubs that played that kind of music but it reminds me of listening to Colin Dale's show that used to be on in the small hours on Kiss FM around 89-93. I used to love listening to that show..lying in bed..falling asleep..waking up again. Not sure if it's exactly the kind of record that Dale would have played but it seems to be in that area from what I can remember.

sheesh! i forgot dave angel played so fast!

the 'ravey electroclash' one i used to play but i can't for the life of me remember what it is. i'm pretty certain it's a berlin rave track - westbam, something on low spirit or something by mijk van dijk. most of my records from this era are stored in my garage but i'll try to have a route through sometime soon to see if i can find out for you.

the 'vacant spacey one' - i have no idea. sounds like it might have been on esp. nico?

the 'long acid one' sounds like it was a labworks 12" but again, i'm not sure. sorry for not being much help but this particular era is all a bit of a blur to say the least and not one i'm particularly fond of revisiting. saying that, i played 'carousel' by koenig cylinders out the other week and it still sounds immense (even if i did have to have it pitched down as far as it would go).

stirmonster, Wednesday, 30 June 2004 23:44 (nineteen years ago) link

two weeks pass...
finally routed through some old records.

the 'ravey electroclash' one is - 'natural high' by loopzone on mfs records from '92 and it is by mijk van dijk with some dude called henry.

stirmonster, Sunday, 18 July 2004 18:54 (nineteen years ago) link

yes, the stupid thing is, i actually knew that! and then forgot, i just bought it.

i even started a loopzone thread a while back, and forgot about that too

stirmonster, Sunday, 18 July 2004 19:38 (nineteen years ago) link

i was going to have gone to that, but didnt make it in the end, with eli calling off sick, and lauren flying back to nyc. oh well, robert hood next weekend, so all is not lost, but it would have been great to hear that tune played out in a big club again, its been a while

Weird.

Jacob (Jacob), Monday, 19 July 2004 07:08 (nineteen years ago) link

he didn't. he was 'executive producer' which basically means he a&r'ed the record.

toby, there are many possibilities next weekend. i'll keep you posted

one year passes...
I need a mix ID

I'm going through my old CD collection and many of them aren't labeled.
I found two that say "Rave" on the front and nothing else.
I had (have) little concept, knowlegde, of subgenre, though, so probably isn't all "rave." I made this probably 2000, but it's I think its 90s music. Most of it was just whatever I could download to dance to and I liked the hooks. I'm sure these are easy IDs because I believe I got them through Napster and they were probably fairly common "fun"tracks .
I'm just curious about the artists and titles also because some of the tracks seem lower quality and I wonder where I might go out and find (buy) some of this stuff again.

I have the mix uploaded,
and they were individual on the cd but i just connected them simple so I could upload it at once.
http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=1827B99654FE186C

and here's also a quick description of the songs.

1. Rave version of "Eternal Flame"
2. A guy says "Dance Your Ass Off to This Funky Music" and then says "Dance your ass ass off" the rest of the song.
3. Something spanish that I know says "Estoy el mundo / en ese segundo / la [macha?] empieza [something something]" and then "Arriba con los brazos / Vamos [amo?]'
4. A man's pilot voice says "....Five. Four. Three. Two. One. Zero...Ignition".
5. "Discoland" "Take me up up up and away." (Tiny Tot?)
6. The song starts and then begins to build, and about 20 seconds in there's a pause for a robotic voice to say, "Techno" and then the rave goes in.
7. [a wordless tune]
8. Tune of "My Heart Will Go On" combined with what sounds like this DJ Tiesto song that I can't recall the name of. "Open your eyes," maybe?
and right at the end when it says "ocean of memories" for the 2nd time, that's fades into the next track which is
9. [wordless tune / instrumental bleepage]
10. A man's voice says "I close my eyes" and there's sort of a light chorus of voices echoing around the words before the build back into the song.
11. The track starts, there's a violin-ish synth that builds up, and then a male-like voice sounds like it says a distorted "rawr" and then echoes (rawr rawr rawr rawr). And then later there's a female voice that repeats what sounds like is "Rupert" or "Groove heart" or something. I think it's "rupert."
12. A woman's voice from what sounds like the UK says "We're Wicked, yeah."
13. [instrumental techno thing w/ piano]
14. [wordless tune]
15. This seems like a sped up mega mix/Happy Hardcore thing with the hooks of catchy songs. It starts out with a high pictched voice saying, "open your eyes, see all the love in me, I got enough forever." and after that song the next connected is "I am standing here in my field of dreams / the sun has passed me by it seems"
16. And then this is just a really hyperactive track.

Yes. Thanks.
Thank you :0
