my punk rock claim to fame: i was really involved in the campus green party in the 2000 elections, and we brought him to speak at my school. we took him out to dinner afterwards, and the only place open was denny's. he ate my fries. he also pissed in an empty water bottle before his lecture, so he didn't have to go out through the auditorium to the bathroom. bottle of jello biafra piss. yep.

And yes, Jello still rocks it live. He sat in with my band last month in Oakland wearing a pope's hat and a judge's robe. It was a good look for him.

Meanwhile, the legendary Jello Biafra hits the road with his new band, Jello Biafra & The Guantanamo School of Medicine. After a warm-up show in Northern California, they're blitzing Europe with the core band of Jello, Ralph Spight, Kimo Ball, and Jon Weiss. Andrew Weiss (Ween, Gone, and Rollins Band) is on bass this tour as Billy Gould is touring with his band Faith No More.

White People And The Damage Done (Virus 450) is the band's second full length, picking up where last fall’s “Shock-u-py!” left off. This long-awaited anti-austerity blast-a-thon with the teeth, venom, and one-of-a-kind music of Jello Biafra covers in gruesome detail: corruption (“The Brown Lipstick Parade”), “Werewolves of Wall Street,” “Road Rage,” and corporate McMedia making pop stars out of small-time crooks to shield the big ones (“John Dillinger”) or tabloid pop stars to lobotomize everyone else (“Hollywood Goof Disease”). Frankenchrist was a concept album?

This album kinda sucks unfortunately. The band sounds really stiff, the guitar sound is mostly rubbish slick distortion. There are some good songs on it, I think the production lets it down the most. Lyrics are a bit trite in places too, it's all angry and going for all the targets you'd expect but the wit isn't there in a lot of it.
