A girl I used to go out with was a nurse at one of the hospitals Jimbo volunteered at, she said he was creepy creepy creepy, none of the nurses ever wanted to be left alone in the same room as him

Tom D., Thursday, 14 February 2008 13:42 (sixteen years ago) link

I remember a popbitch rumour about him, which my comment refers to.

The Boyler, Thursday, 14 February 2008 13:50 (sixteen years ago) link

Oh, yeah there's a 'thinly disguised' character in an Irvine Welsh book, etc...

THE SAVILE I KNEW WAS NO <CONTROVERSIAL MOD EDIT>

Dingbod Kesterson, Thursday, 14 February 2008 14:03 (sixteen years ago) link

Yeah, but that was Peter Saville, right?

Mark G, Thursday, 14 February 2008 14:04 (sixteen years ago) link

It might have been Jimmy Pursey.

Dingbod Kesterson, Thursday, 14 February 2008 14:24 (sixteen years ago) link

I have a phone number in my phone which belonged to a friend of mine before me, which said friend claims to be the actual phone number of Jimmy Savile. It doesn't work, but my pal swears he has talked to Jimmy Savile on it in the past. There's a story of why he would at least theoretically have his phone number, but I can't remember what it is.

I've gotta rep for the Ripper keeping his trademark hair and beard all these years, instead of shaving and getting a bit of an easier life maybe.

I can't fathom why Jimmy Saville would want to hang around with someone famous for murdering women and carelessly dumping the bodies around Yorkshire

Luka ModReq (DJ Mencap), Wednesday, 25 February 2009 12:29 (fifteen years ago) link

This photo was taken 18 years ago, he might have got rid of the beard by now. Also Saville probably not breaking the law.

Ned Trifle II, Wednesday, 25 February 2009 12:34 (fifteen years ago) link

Grim Gordon Brown has put his foot down and said that Sutcliffe will never be released.

Great! We can ignore all expert opinions, stop hiring doctors and professionals and allow the tabloids to dictate Government policy. The same tabloids who pay 13-year-old criminals, put them on their front pages and encourage others to do the same.

Bernard Braden Misreads Stephen Leacock (Marcello Carlin), Wednesday, 25 February 2009 12:38 (fifteen years ago) link

Why do all the posters on The Sun HYS think that Sutcliffe has never stood trial? Very odd.

I've gotta rep for the Ripper keeping his trademark hair and beard all these years, instead of shaving and getting a bit of an easier life maybe.

Beard hides scars from when he was attacked in Parkhurst.

I don't think he's on anything like the same Caligula-like scale but he does constantly remind me of Boris Johnson, a similar confidence trickster using TV, media, sentimentality, charity, 'eccentricity' and a similar 'yes, I actually am a gangster' double-bluff

the dan davies book is p good tho -- unless there's a updated post #metoo edition -- it felt like he was pulling some of his punches (at least that's what i felt when i read it)

in terms of "in plain sight" saville's own "as it happens" is a good deal grimmer

lol i couldn't even finish the first paragraph of the david hare review, just take this guy's pen away forever plz

yoikes! I can vaguely remember in the 70's when my my mum was a registered childminder he was the face of registered childminding. I know I'm not making this up because I can clearly remember some govt childminding pamphlet in the house with a pic of a black haired Savile on the cover.

saw sadowitz in a pub in ealing once, rehearsing his tour, and it was one of the funniest things i’ve seen (partly because it definitely wasn’t for a lot of the people there).

then i went to see pretty much exactly the same show at the royal festival hall (bit weird) and it felt offensive and flat.

Fizzles, Wednesday, 9 February 2022 19:29 (two years ago) link

possibly worth noting i generally loathe comedy and esp stand up comics (numerous notable exceptions aside)

Fizzles, Wednesday, 9 February 2022 19:31 (two years ago) link

god how pompous. but i just don’t like the whole stand up comedy thing. every fibre of me resists violently.

Fizzles, Wednesday, 9 February 2022 19:32 (two years ago) link

agree. there's just something cringe about the whole setup. an audience pays to have someone be funny for them. no wonder so many stand-up comics are assholes. i'm not sure why i don't feel this way about theater. the older i get the more my definition of humor turns to spontaneous riffing among friends.

Nedlene Grendel as Basenji Holmo (map), Wednesday, 9 February 2022 19:55 (two years ago) link

OTM. Jerry is a magician though! I mean, literally a magician.

Bastards of Fish (Tom D.), Wednesday, 9 February 2022 20:05 (two years ago) link

You'll like this you cunt, not a lot, but you'll like it! tbf he was a much better magician than Paul Daniels and he's often made me laugh than any comedians do.
