"Is this a 'who would win in a fight?' thread?"

No, it's for deciding who gets to drive the Bang Bus.

That floating baby hippo is a wonder and a half.

also one time i was at the zoo and they were preparing to give the baby hippo a bath. this was in the children's petting zoo (behind a small, low fence). they had filled a little kiddie pool (the kind you put out on the lawn) with warm water from a hose. the hippo was standing in front of it looking down, off to one side, very sheepishly (a little sad, too). the zookeeper was pouring water from the hose onto his back, petting him, saying "it's ok, it's ok, see?" then she turned to us and said "well, he's a little nervous about going in because he thinks it's going to be cold"

baby hippos win!!

Aww, the nice.

See what I love about the floating baby hippo photo is that said baby hippo is all wide-eyed and wondrous and his/her parent has a smug smile going, "Yeah, I got a cute kid and what do YOU have?"

Just beautiful. :-)

Just what is it that makes baby hippos so cute, so appealing?

Nemo (JND), Friday, 27 February 2004 17:40 (twenty years ago) link

That they are small and wee.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 27 February 2004 17:47 (twenty years ago) link

It makes no sense that hippos are cute.

It may be apocryphal, but I heard long ago that hippos kill more people than any other large mammal in Africa. Crocodiles may be somewhat more dangerous than hippos, but then, they're not mammals, amirite?
