Oh man, this album is amazing!

haven't heard the Spacetime album, but I've been playing the Reaganz album a lot in the past week or so and it is fantastic

Reagenz*

karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Tuesday, 20 July 2010 05:22 (thirteen years ago) link

Yes.. totally with you on the love for Jonah Sharp. I was listening to the follow up to Emit Ecaps, Double Fine Zone, only yesterday. It's not as great as the EE though. The original Reagenz with Move D comes from a time when I was really starting to get into electronic dance music. Move D's music in the 90s, to my ears, was so much more creative than the Move D of late. Kunststoff still blows my mind. The remixes of Emit Ecaps (called Remit Recaps) has good mixes from Carl Craig and Herbert.

I heard Take That by Jurgen Paape the first time I ever went to my student union. That was the moment I knew Goldsmiths had been a good choice.

Yes, I have that Spacetime Continuum Remix Comp. Also excellent, especially for a remix comp.

i'm really into stefan robbers at the moment. there's the really hard early stuff like acid junkies, the slightly unhinged hyperactive dark and moody terrace stuff, then the super deep shit like his track on the virtual sex compilation and the record on ifach. plus loads i haven't heard yet! such a great producer

this is my fav of his at the moment, it sounds like a nitzer ebb bassline having a panic attack:

so good

also check the double time intro on that track

any one else a fan?

I remember Acid Junkies from back in the day, but haven't listened to that stuff in over 10 years. Djax-Up released some seriously banging tunes in the early 90s, I guess I should give this guy a listen.

Nice find, I hadn't heard this before.

Too much thinking, not enough bizarro warp factor rocking. (Display Name), Friday, 3 September 2010 02:57 (thirteen years ago) link

Oh man, Chicago has thus far been very good to me re: bobbins of the past. It's amazing just seeing years worth of what would otherwise be total gem finds condensed together into a few square feet of space.

Also, I love the fact that no less than 4 and a half hours after stepping foot in the city I was already seeing Phuture 303 do a live set, tweaking a real 303 right in front to my eyes.

:D

EDB, Friday, 3 September 2010 03:01 (thirteen years ago) link

Yeah, vinyl in Chicago is ridiculous. Between Grammaphone, Kstark and Mr. Peabody you could go seriously broke.

A _LOT_ of people have been dumping their collections out there recently. Grammaphone and Kstark are getting sick collections every couple of weeks.

As I told my brother in Kstarke, I could totally drop $1000 right here and now. It's frightening how easy it would be, too.

Speaking of things painted on walls in Detroit, these photos popped up on the 313 list today:

I went record shopping today and found some goodies:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PAUKeAYByXw

I thought I found a long lost Bell/Varley record I had never heard of. It turns out that they had nothing to do with this and it was released on Paul Hardcastle's house music label.

anyone knows what techno/house tracks made it to pitchfork's top 250 tracks of the 90's? too lazy to browse it.

impressive haul! that conway brothers thing is cool. i had a pretty good haul myself this weekend, got an erik erickson single on fragile, a gerald mitchell thing on 420 west, a bunch of shut up and dance singles, a couple of things on compass, jams in the key of smack by polarius, red planet 02 and some other stuff i can't remember

the best thing i got was the x-ray record on transmat. can't believe i slept on this for so long, "untitled" is incredible

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQ4BqRbC8Ow

vessels in distress (r1o natsume), Monday, 6 September 2010 12:57 (thirteen years ago) link

the mixes of "let's go" on that record sound very much of 1986, but it's crazy how years ahead "untitled" sounds

vessels in distress (r1o natsume), Monday, 6 September 2010 12:58 (thirteen years ago) link

That X-Ray record is tight, nice find!

I don't know what to think of those Compass records. They were really hyped back in the day and Hawtin in particular used to really champion them. I have come across a handful of them recently and I just can't get into them. I don't think they are horrible, it is just that there wasn't much going in them musically, the drums weren't that funky, and they just seem really tooly.

I am not attacking you, they just don't do much for me.

You ever get into any of those Unit 2 singles on 430 West?

a couple of things on compass,

I'm a bit confused, do you mean Cabinet Records? Some of those tracks are absolutely brilliant, but there seems to be a fine line between the great ones and the bog-standard ones.

Chewshabadoo, Monday, 6 September 2010 16:26 (thirteen years ago) link

A couple I really like:

Cab Drivers: Elwico
Horseshoe: Honey

Both unfortunately not on Youtube.

Chewshabadoo, Monday, 6 September 2010 16:31 (thirteen years ago) link

i've got the one they put out on happy records (somehow it's a bargain bin mainstay around here). i'll check that one out though, thanks

i like a lot of stuff on cabinet, especially when it sounds like it's beginning to feed into the early perlon sound (i read somewhere that zip is also a big fan). but it's a pretty recent discovery for me and i have to get to know the records more, nothing has really blown me away like stuff on say, trelik has for example

final cut was briefly mentioned recently on another thread, well today i picked this up for 2 pounds, it's the og one on paragon records not the network repress. so sick, i could listen to this 80s detroit club music all day:

yes i mean cabinet! one of the ones i picked up was by a group called compass...

favourite mike banks house track is this

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=brTZ4a1reBY

first heard steffi play it outside panorama bar at like 2 pm a few years ago, literally like 10 of us sprinting over to the decks to trainspot it
also got a mint copy of city slab horror for £3, but that's for another thread i guess

Given how bad quality some of these records are, I'm really glad I didn't :(

EDB, Wednesday, 8 September 2010 03:26 (thirteen years ago) link

That's a bummer, what was the deal with the records? Weren't you able to check them out before you bought them?

srsly dudes pastiche aesthetic + amiable nihilism (Display Name), Wednesday, 8 September 2010 05:06 (thirteen years ago) link

Yeah, but the thing is their their listening station is such a thrown together setup that everything sounded like it had been dragged across the interstate. A few of these were admittedly marked down accordingly, but otherwise, I wasn't looking for a record of scratching and popping that happens to have a robert owens track underneath, etc.

Well, at least the copy of Promised Land I got for $5 was pretty much brand new.

EDB, Wednesday, 8 September 2010 13:43 (thirteen years ago) link

I am sorry to hear that. I never understood used record stores that skimp on their listening stations. What Robert Owens record is it?

srsly dudes pastiche aesthetic + amiable nihilism (Display Name), Wednesday, 8 September 2010 15:07 (thirteen years ago) link

That was Bring Down the Walls. Among other gritty sounding records I also got was a copy of The Pressure Cooker that sounded like it was put in an actual pressure cooker. Though it may have been the first, I don't think it will be the last time I'll come across these though.
