What do you sound like on Nu-ILX?

I like the video: n/a. Weren't you the one talking a while back about how your band had no stage presence? B/C you do seem to have it now.

And I got it!

I am in a rock band. We have been playing shows for a year and a half or so. Sometimes people see us and say that we sound good but that we need more "stage presence." I guess they mean we should move around more and be more exciting. But we worry about THINKING too much about what we are doing on stage, that it will come across as too fakey and thought-out.
So how do you approach "stage presence"? Can you develop it?

Stage presence = drinking

oh that was back in the day. we have more stage presence (drinking) now.

though there was no drinking in that video because it was like 11 a.m.

but if it was taped at night you totally would have been drinking on the kids show.

The vocals are a bit difficult to hear during the verses. Maybe take off some of the reverb and bring them forward in the mix? Chorus sounds good and I like the piano.

the songs could maybe use some more development in the drums though? it makes them seem kind of static.

yeah we were at the point of pulling our hair out and just wanting to be *done* with those particular demos so programming took a back seat near the end there. i totally agree that that drums probably need to be redone from scratch on all those tunes

Margins = fantastic. I can't work out if the production is terrible or awesome, in a Russian Futurists kind of way. Any chance I could remix "Never Too Late". It gives me all kinds of ideas.

EQ is boxy, the attributes of any reverb used seem to be pretty random, separation is woeful, vocals sound like the singer is trying to hide under a table in case anyone notices who he is, the dynamics suck, the distorted guitar sound has about as much prescence as an anemic ghost, that keyboard bass sound needs throwing down the nearest volcano, where's your snares at? . . . .

HOWEVER there's several serendipitous moments where it just seems to work really well, which is probably down to the strength of the ideas present more than anything. If you could send me the bits (and please send the vocals without verb) that'd be awesome. My emails in my profile.

I had a Myspace but there's something so inspidly sinster, useless and naff about the whole thing that I got rid of it. Plus some theiving hippy (cunt still has my speaker stand) was plastering it with flyers for his godforsaken acoustic night.

thx. I was pretty surprised at how decent I could get the Garage Band synths to sound, especially the drums.

I wound up changing the mix a bit - I think the repeated piano pattern gets a little harsh so I pulled it down a little. I may turn it into a multi-part proggy suite I think. It's my first effort toward that RPM challenge thing.

Are the drums live or Garage Band?
