Had first experience with hair dye last night and now my shower is all purple. I tried cleaning it immediately and it didn't come out. Will it ever go away?

um... the kind from walgreens. lo'real? dark brown.

It will probably fade eventually. You could try those Mr. Clean Magic Erasers on it - they are fairly miraculous when it comes to cleaning showers/tubs.

it might take a bit of scrubbing and fairly strong cleansers, but permanent dye does come out.

but your purple stains reminded me of when i graduated from high school, i tried to dye my hair purple with Manic Panic (which involved a trip to the nearest city to purchase, because such things were not sold in the town where i grew up). Probably because my hair is really thick and dry, it did nothing to my hair, but my hands ended up the color of Grimace from the McDonald's ads, so I wore gloves to graduation. I think it was 90 degrees out.

It always fades over time, in my experience.

What I find on tile/enamel/grout is it's the soap scum that's turned purple, fiberglass/plastic stain directly.

I once got a friend to dye my hair blue w/ Manic Panic and he did not wear gloves and the following day, had to go to work at the candy store (I know, right?) with blue hands.

I have only ever used wash-out dye at home, and that always came out eventually. Good luck, peacocks.

I definitely wore gloves while doing the dye-ing but I still managed to make a mess. It was my friend's hair and I got a bunch of purple on her ears and forehead and my forearms which all came out pretty fast. I'll try the magic erasers!

I bet you looked classy in gloves, were they fancy ones or winter ones? I used to wear dress gloves or laced cuff socks when I was 5 to look more elegant on outings.

they were dress gloves. If you're talking about an extensive area of stain, be sure to get at least one package of the magic erasers - they really don't last that long.

but you might be better off using a concentrated amount of comet or bleach and just use the magic erasers on the worst stains.

For getting rid of stains I have good luck dampening the area, and then dumping a ton of Comet cleanser on there, and letting it sit until I remember I did that & need to go back & clean it up (usually a few hours). The advantage of this solution is it is hella cheap. Since it is a tub it will also be easy.

I think my problem is that I have invested solely in all natural home cleaners.

Comet is basically powdered bleach + fine sand. Dishwasher detergent (I use the gel kind) also works great for this, due to the chlorine content.

I am easily entertained/fascinated by the magic eraser - no chemicals, just a billion scrubby microfibers.

xp - haha - i have too since my ex moved out, but there's still some comet and simple green left over. he was really particular about cleaning products in terms of maximum efficiency

so true - I use that mint window stuff on everything I can. I cleaned the linoleum with it though and the cats went nuts thinking the whole floor was catnip.

I use pretty intensely powerful dye (elumen, I go candy apple red) and I have found Scrubbing Bubbles cleaner will clean the tub well, FYI.

I dyed my hair with Loreal Feria violet black the other night, forgetting how violet the undertones are. And that my regrowth is silver. Haw. I now have Very Purple Roots and black hair. It looks kind of funky, but I'd rather deep red than purple!

i am getting my hair cut tomorrow! for the first time in months and months, since hangin w my friend the hairdresser on the west coast, so, with a new stylist eeek.

I got my hair cut on saturday and my ex bf's mom was there. I had to break up with her. :/

Only the last one was. Usually they do a great job - i think its the fact I'm trying to grow out a short fringe. Well, har this thread has made me book in for a haircut after work today anyway. And I think I'll get some bright red streaks done.
