i want to read really good fantasy books and hang out in the forest

i think i sank 20-30 hours into world of xeen without doing anything at all from the main plot. ventured into some random mountain range and got my party slaughtered. stopped playing.

I'm alternately reading that as "world of ween" and "world of peen". sorry.

Might and Magic VI: The Mandate of Heaven was the best one in the series. I like how you can switch from first-person to turn-based mode. They should make a Might and Magic game alternative to Oblivion in the future but I doubt that will happen

Sigh. I have a bind-up copy of the Gormenghast novels under my desk. I couldn't bear more than maybe 50 pages and it's been checked out from the library for like a year.

exactly this experience, except it was bought for me.

yah its really slow to start and sort of self-serious and prolix but i ended up really liking it, once i got accustomed to the tone and pacing. i mean i really liked its otherwordliness & its characters even if it could become a chore, sometimes.

i really liked those gormenghast bbc miniseries a few years ago w/ jonathan reese meyer *before he was famous*

gf loved them, and loved the book- feel kinda guilty that i've not been able to get into it.

tried watching the dvd- JRM is awful, i literally cannot watch him in it.

i liked the freaky twins. idk i was like thirteen when this was on telly

i'm not hating i'm lamenting tbh

i kinda wish i hadn't read song of ice and fire books since now its looking like the series is never gonna be finished and it's just an endless jumble of cliffhangers and loose ends

i refused to ever start the wheel of time series until it's been completed, for the same reason

like it's been 5 years now since the 4th book came out and i forget all the plot details and will probably have to reread all 4000 pages of the existing books if i'm to continue onward in the future

it's definitely the best of the best w/r/t pulpy fantasy series though, i loved it the first time through

despite the at times godawful writing i think wot is 'better' and a 'bigger achievement' in fantasy than songs of fire & ice. the plotting and world-building are just n/l
