Organix Nourishing Cocnout Milk Shampoo is my favorite shampoo, so luxurious! but it is expensive so I just buy the grapefruit flavor suave. There are currently no guys in my life to give instant orgasms to so

I went shopping Monday and got the first dress I have ever felt like fully accessorizing with. I got a matching belt and have shoes but freaking I need a purse and those brown sunglasses dammit! I've never felt this way about clothing before.

ps that guy is cuet. d d too obv.

also, ime pantene is evil and thins your hair! if that is not ye, then disregard but watch out imo!

season 3 - and my hair is super-thick

sarahel, Wednesday, 7 July 2010 23:09 (thirteen years ago) link

pantene makes hair super dry, it's like pure detergent. herbal essences smells way too strong and not good imo

Did anyone use Revlon Outrageous? That stuff smelled like perfume, and I loved it when I was in college.

Now I use conditioners to wash my hair, and all of it seems to smell too strong.

JuliaA, Wednesday, 7 July 2010 23:57 (thirteen years ago) link

Yes! I loved Outrageous.

Whole Foods has an unscented conditioner that I believe is appropriate for a no 'poo program. I'll check the brand when I get home.

I use a shampoo bar hand-crafted by free range hippies.

sinister chemical wisdom (Jenny), Thursday, 8 July 2010 00:02 (thirteen years ago) link

i like whole foods shampoo/conditioner. it took a while for my hair to get used to it because it doesn't strip much oil away but even the scented version is not that smelly.

the girl with the butt tattoo (harbl), Thursday, 8 July 2010 00:05 (thirteen years ago) link

My Proustian hair care was Body Shop's Rosemary Shampoo. The Kiehl's I use now does not smell as strong, but is similar. I seriously cannot remember ever using drugstore shampoo past No More Tears-type stuff. It's because my mother is a bargain barracuda and Minneapolis is Aveda HQ so we were in gallons of salon-sized Aveda shampoos etc starting when I was a teenager.

omg totally forgot abt Outrageous! Hahaa. I used in for a bit a long time ago. Srsly can't deal w anything smelly now. Not even aveda :(

My mom would seriously go to Cancer Society rummage sales and come back with these HUGE plastic jugs full of high-end shampoo - I think her first big score was a bunch of Paul Mitchell. The only shampoo we ever had that truly honked/was vile was anything AUSSIE-related, smell makes me shudder still.

THIS BOOK EQUAL CONJOB (suzy), Thursday, 8 July 2010 00:26 (thirteen years ago) link

Thanks Jenny!

Right now I'm using Suave conditioners because they're cheap, and they work fine but they smell so incredibly strong. Fragrances don't usually linger in my hair, but these do––today I smell like coconuts.

XP I used to love Aussie products! I used to like all sorts of super–scented crap.

JuliaA, Thursday, 8 July 2010 00:31 (thirteen years ago) link

If they made frankincense-scented shampoo I would buy gallons of it.

Wait is Aussie a brand, or are you guys generalising about our shitty shampoos? =)

Love and Arugula (Trayce), Thursday, 8 July 2010 03:04 (thirteen years ago) link

It's a brand that's probably not Australian at all:

roxymuzak, Thursday, 8 July 2010 03:24 (thirteen years ago) link

in fact does anyone have experience with mixing essential oils into shamp/conditioner?

roxymuzak, Thursday, 8 July 2010 03:24 (thirteen years ago) link

Julia, that's the kind of unscented conditioner I have used. I didn't love it, but I used it in conjunction with shampoo, so I can't speak to it as a c-wash conditioner.

Trayce, here is how the Aussie shampoo brand depicts your fellow citizens: as purple, hair-obsessed kangaroos.

wow i just got back from the flaming lips show, which was awesome, and
i'm always amazed at the extent the flaming lips go to show how much they love vaginas
they really really love them! in a really good way often bordering on worship! imo!
makes me happy to have one tbh

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Thursday, 8 July 2010 04:33 (thirteen years ago) link

yyyeaahh Ive never seen that brand of hair products ANYWHERE in this country i dont think xpost.

Love and Arugula (Trayce), Thursday, 8 July 2010 05:03 (thirteen years ago) link

I had a roommate who used to put a bunch of essential oils into her shampoo. mostly rose and patchouli. I had another friend who made a rinse/spray thing to get beach hair any time that was honey, salt water and lemon juice. Pretty yummy smelling.

Oh I loved the way Aussie products smelled way back when, but I also used to love Tea Rose perfumes and all kinds of stinky things.

Salon selectives hairspray was what I used to cover up the smoke smell when I was sneaking cigs in high school. I now associate it with Mad Dog hangovers and too many smokes.

quincie, Thursday, 8 July 2010 13:44 (thirteen years ago) link

is salon selectives the one that smelled like fake apple smell? pinkish coral bottle?

― quincie, Thursday, July 8, 2010 1:44 PM (1 minute ago)

that is what I meant by "nostalgic for high school". hee hee hee. yeah. the bottle was pink and it was very fruity/candy

Kelsey Glamour (Nijoli), Thursday, 8 July 2010 13:46 (thirteen years ago) link

it's what your hair is like after the beach. it's easier to shape, smells good, looks cool and is maybe a little bit lighter.

peacocks, Thursday, 8 July 2010 13:46 (thirteen years ago) link

Beach hair is tousled, piecey, and messy and works best with wavy hair. Not such a great look on stick straight hair like mine.

peacocks, Thursday, 8 July 2010 13:48 (thirteen years ago) link

beach hair is the first step on the short road to dreads for me!
(i have never let it get there tho! always break down and comb/wash after day 3 when camping/at a cottage w lake or sea).

my friend who is a hair stylist digs the salt-in-water 'hairspray' too

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Thursday, 8 July 2010 14:06 (thirteen years ago) link

Seems like it would be awfully drying?

the soul of the avocado escapes as soon as you open it (Laurel), Thursday, 8 July 2010 14:19 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah it probably is which is why my hair feels sooo soft and nice when I wash it the day after the beach.

peacocks, Thursday, 8 July 2010 14:46 (thirteen years ago) link

My hair is so gross at the beach! I have naturally curly hair and the beach makes it frizzy. I look like little orphan annie the second i step out on the sand.

Kelsey Glamour (Nijoli), Thursday, 8 July 2010 14:55 (thirteen years ago) link

i look like a sad drowned rat at the beach. my hair gets mad stringy and looks awful.
