Everytime you hear the Wilhelm scream, it's on purpose. It's a time-honored Hollywood tradition. Probably the same for the dolphin noise and the cheap crowd gasp. Directors, editors and sound editors love in-jokes.

There was also that weird snippet of canned laughter a lot of 60s sitcoms like Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie seemed to use, where you could hear this one guy yelp in a distinctive way that made the re-used laughter so obvious.
