I've owned one for thirteen years, but never called it anything but a shaving kit. Never heard Dopp Kit before.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Thursday, 20 September 2007 15:56 (sixteen years ago) link

I only use mine when traveling as well.

n/a, Thursday, 20 September 2007 15:58 (sixteen years ago) link

i always thought it was a Doc Kit, because mine looks like an ol timey doctors bag but i am an idiot, so.

also, n/a i was just horsing around in the lazy zing thread, i didn't mean you were being self-righteous, for reals, so sorry if i offended.

Goddamn, that lazy zing thread. It's a cancer.

^^love that one. It might have been the one that got Maddie hooked in KitH, I think.

Jordan, Thursday, 20 September 2007 16:12 (sixteen years ago) link

Mr. Que, it's cool, I know you were just joking around in the spirit of the thread. I was just using your quote to try (unsuccessfully) to deflect the criticism I knew was coming for me trying to steer the thread back on track. But whatever. I'm not reading that thread any more, or at least not today. Actually I was going to take an ILX break but decided to just stick to the Chicago thread.

One thing I love about that sketch is how obvious it is that it came out of improvisation.

n/a, Thursday, 20 September 2007 16:15 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm a sucker for the sketches that are basically about Bruce McCullough being weird, like all the Gavin sketches.

jaymc, Thursday, 20 September 2007 16:25 (sixteen years ago) link

All I'm doing now is watching Kids in the Hall.

n/a, Thursday, 20 September 2007 16:26 (sixteen years ago) link

I remember some KitH thing that was kind of an MTV parody, it was about a new dance or style or something...it was probably the most dated thing they ever did, but awesomely so.

Jordan, Thursday, 20 September 2007 16:27 (sixteen years ago) link

All I ever do is watch Kids in the Hall.

Jordan, Thursday, 20 September 2007 16:59 (sixteen years ago) link

Not that I recall. That'd be a good one, though!

three and a half stars? WHY BOTHER?

rooftop bar!

dan m, Thursday, 20 September 2007 17:33 (sixteen years ago) link

colette, how long have you been looking? and what are you looking for, again?

sisut, Thursday, 20 September 2007 17:55 (sixteen years ago) link

Colette it took me three (3) months to find a full-time job, and that was a pretty shitty full-time job.

n/a, Thursday, 20 September 2007 17:58 (sixteen years ago) link

Colette, email me at naamme @ yahoo dot com. I don't think I have your email.

n/a, Thursday, 20 September 2007 17:58 (sixteen years ago) link

Hey just in case people are still looking for bikes, I saw this place written up in Chicago Weekly, sounds like a great shop:

dan m, Thursday, 20 September 2007 18:03 (sixteen years ago) link

Actually that whole issue was pretty great. They cataloged the "best of the south side". That record store in Beverly made it, along with Salonica and a bunch of other places that have been mentioned on Chi threads gone by.

dan m, Thursday, 20 September 2007 18:08 (sixteen years ago) link

Never mind colette, I found your email, Sarah had sent it to me a while back.

n/a, Thursday, 20 September 2007 18:12 (sixteen years ago) link

i guess i first started seriously looking the beginning of august. i'm not even getting calls back from temp agencies (i'm registered with new 0ffice but in that time have had 6 days of work). i know it's a slow process, but man it's depressing!

sisut, i have a masters degree in nonprofit management. i've been applying for communications posts and events planning and some grantwriting. plus general admin assistant roles, working in shops, etc. bleh.

colette, Thursday, 20 September 2007 18:17 (sixteen years ago) link

2x what n/a said...it took me about 3 months of looking. I'm in non-profit fundraising/development so let me know where you've been looking and I'll keep an eye out, too. I know Teen Living Programs was looking for a grantwriter a while back, but I think they've filled it. Go ahead and email me at katie @ lacasanorte dot org

sisut, Thursday, 20 September 2007 18:23 (sixteen years ago) link

From the AV Club interview with Uwe Boll: "...Dave foley really went for it. He event went for a full-frontal nudity scene, which was surprising for me also. I was sitting behind my video desk and couldn't believe it! He did it without telling me. He was supposed to get up from his bed and close his bathrobe, but he didn't close it. We were all sitting there laughing our ass off. He played it super-cool. It's those kinds of offensive scenes that make Postal special, because it's harsher than what we're used to from even the Farrelly brothers' comedies. It's like one step more than even Borat. Postal is like Borat without the black bars."
