I re-watched Dog Day Afternoon a couple of weeks ago. I think it's really strong for the first 45 minutes or so, but I don't know, for me it just seems to peter out after that. I love Buscemi in the documentary talking about how the Simpsons incorporated Cazale's Dog Day character into an episode.

I haven't seen it, but I think Buscemi's character and the Cazale lookalike are (surprise) robbing a bank--they show the clip in the documentary.

Saw The Deer Hunter (took me a couple of installments) and when finished I thought it was a bit heavy-handed and maybe overly dramatic. But a few days later, I found myself thinking of some of the scenes. The Streep/De Niro reunion is great. Also, Walken spitting in De Niro's face. The town that Walken specifies when he calls home: Clairton, Pennsylvania. Really wanted to see more Cazale but understandable why not. Axel, who looks like an Allman Brothers roadie. De Niro so much better acting angry rather than happy. The forced ending.

I just think he'd be the type of person who'd like for someone to drop him a birthday salutation on a message board.
imagine seeing him and Pacino in this 50+ years ago
