Yep! The email is real, sorry I seem to have missed this comment up till now. You feeling okay, beating the headache?

Laurel, Wednesday, 7 September 2005 22:38 (eighteen years ago) link

still got the headache, but i should be okay to hang for a little while. i'll be leaving in a minute.

renegade bus (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 7 September 2005 22:49 (eighteen years ago) link

I got there late, after 9:30, Laurel and Jody were already there, had played three rounds. Overall we came in third, but thanks to teh JBR we tied in the bonus round and won a pitcher of beer, of which I drank half. To round out teh team for the next time, need some I Love Comics/RPG/Noize type, sez I.

k/l (Ken L), Thursday, 8 September 2005 04:07 (eighteen years ago) link

But 'twas great fun, as Ned might have said ;)

k/l (Ken L), Thursday, 8 September 2005 04:14 (eighteen years ago) link

And it's nice to see that the whole team got home safe and sound and speedy.

Where did the questions from, historical-epoch and categorywise?

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 8 September 2005 12:33 (eighteen years ago) link

Mostly pop culture, AGAIN, with rounds called Rock'n'Roll, That's Entertainment, Junk Food, a Geek Round with questions on recording equipment/comic books/D&D/etc, god I forget the rest. And a bonus round on Brooklyn, which JBR was wholly responsible for our doing half decently on. I am sunk at this quiz unless they change focus to general knowledge.

But good times, good times. We need a bigger group, people, get on the stick and let's organize ourselves into two teams by topical specialty.

Laurel (Laurel), Thursday, 8 September 2005 12:43 (eighteen years ago) link

Would you have known four of the Green Lantern's alter egos, or six of them?

k/l (Ken L), Thursday, 8 September 2005 13:02 (eighteen years ago) link

That question is addressed to Dr. Morbius.

k/l (Ken L), Thursday, 8 September 2005 13:02 (eighteen years ago) link

I don't do comics, or any of those other Geek specialties.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 8 September 2005 13:06 (eighteen years ago) link

Would you have known at least 4 out of 6 of the original cities that made up now-Brooklyn?

Laurel (Laurel), Thursday, 8 September 2005 13:16 (eighteen years ago) link

Heh, I never knew that was even the case!

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 8 September 2005 13:21 (eighteen years ago) link

Bushwyk?

tokyo nursery school: afternoon session (rosemary), Thursday, 8 September 2005 13:21 (eighteen years ago) link

I wasn't even paying attention when they gave the answer! But Jody might remember.

k/l (Ken L), Thursday, 8 September 2005 13:23 (eighteen years ago) link

Um, Flatbush, Flatlands, Bushwick, New Utrecht...Gravesend? and uh Brooklyn.

Laurel (Laurel), Thursday, 8 September 2005 13:31 (eighteen years ago) link

Oh yeah, Laurel probably remembers.

k/l (Ken L), Thursday, 8 September 2005 13:36 (eighteen years ago) link

I just looked it up. For Bushwick substitute New Lots. Otherwise very good.

is this every Wednesday? Unfortunately I usually work wednesday nights. Maybe I can try to switch with someone in a few weeks, when back from LA (Los Angeles, not Louisiana.) I will gladly be your RPG/noize/comics dork.

Ian John50n (orion), Thursday, 8 September 2005 13:55 (eighteen years ago) link

p.s. weed delivery in the area? send me on e-mail.

Ian John50n (orion), Thursday, 8 September 2005 13:55 (eighteen years ago) link

Awesome. Quiz is every other week, next to be on 7/21, presumably.

Laurel (Laurel), Thursday, 8 September 2005 14:16 (eighteen years ago) link

I want to move to brooklyn and take part in quality pub quiz action.

The local trivia night in Arlington VA is absolute shit.

TOMBOT, Thursday, 8 September 2005 14:18 (eighteen years ago) link

TOM, move the fuck back and bring the little woman with you, I could use a little help raising hell.

Laurel (Laurel), Thursday, 8 September 2005 14:20 (eighteen years ago) link

Ian, I already told you everything you need to know!

The Ghost of Black Elegance (Dan Perry), Thursday, 8 September 2005 14:26 (eighteen years ago) link

Did we get any of the geek questions at all? Well, I remember we got one- "breadboard."

They have live band karaoke tonight.

k/l (Ken L), Friday, 9 September 2005 13:53 (eighteen years ago) link

bushwick is correct actually.

renegade bus (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 9 September 2005 23:39 (eighteen years ago) link

Of course the ladies are right- those are the original six towns. With the New Lots substitution, you get the last six towns that where subsumed into one.

k/l (Ken L), Friday, 9 September 2005 23:59 (eighteen years ago) link

where

k/l (Ken L), Friday, 9 September 2005 23:59 (eighteen years ago) link

three weeks pass...
Tonight--my team schooled at Magnetic Fields, suckas

Keith C (lync0), Thursday, 6 October 2005 03:17 (eighteen years ago) link

i won't be able to do this anymore for a while. :-(

100% WJE (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 6 October 2005 03:24 (eighteen years ago) link

1st round: major asshat trivia nerd bullshit, e.g. "ontogeny recapitulates phylogeny"

2nd round: simpsons & questions about Chuck Biscuits = we pwned

Keith C (lync0), Thursday, 6 October 2005 03:30 (eighteen years ago) link

I can't consider til baseball is over, but then I don't know what Chuck Biscuits is.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 6 October 2005 12:48 (eighteen years ago) link

I seem to remember more than two rounds. In fact, I think I missed at least the first two.

In other news, Bensonhurst Marty is closing his video store and selling his inventory. So, if you want to pay 15 bucks for a VCR copy of Ashes Of Time, run don't walk to Henry and Cranberry.

k/l (Ken L), Monday, 10 October 2005 20:09 (eighteen years ago) link

Nuh-uh. I saw that movie and it wasn't worth 15 bucks.

Laurel (Laurel), Monday, 10 October 2005 20:10 (eighteen years ago) link

I like it, but I don't want to buy any VCR tapes anymore, especially when somebody is charging more than 5 dollars.

k/l (Ken L), Monday, 10 October 2005 22:26 (eighteen years ago) link

Yeah Ken there were actually 4 rounds--I broke it up by the break they gave us. Were you there last week?

Keith C (lync0), Monday, 10 October 2005 23:20 (eighteen years ago) link

No, I was there at the beginning of September, with Jody and Laurel. See upthread.

k/l (Ken L), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 00:55 (eighteen years ago) link

Tuesdays, 4-8 pm, Family Night at Burger King on Fulton Mall featuring the $1 Whopper.

Confounded (Confounded), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 14:36 (eighteen years ago) link

that burger king is INSANE.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 15:23 (eighteen years ago) link

i've never been to that burger king. i've been to the cracked out white castle nearby though!!

glasgow coma score (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 15:26 (eighteen years ago) link

One time I got off the F train and was walking in that direction when I heard one guy say to another "Burger King's bugging out. That's they garbage." Which I verified for myself when I was forced to squeeze past the giant pile of plastic bags full of grease and greasy paper.

k/l (Ken L), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 15:39 (eighteen years ago) link

They wear special $1 Whopper shirts when they hand me my $1 Whopper.

Confounded (Confounded), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 15:43 (eighteen years ago) link

I almost stepped in some puke on Fulton and Joralemon but some kind lady told me to watch out.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Wednesday, 12 October 2005 00:34 (eighteen years ago) link

Today that is. I'm going to have to spread the word about the $1 Whoppers.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Wednesday, 12 October 2005 00:46 (eighteen years ago) link

Steve Buscemi reading from Burroughs' "Queer" this Sunday night at Magnetic Field (he's trying to make a film of it). Along with a "criminally underknown" '70s novelist, David Ohle, who's unknown to me. (I may go if there's no Series game.)

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 18:04 (eighteen years ago) link

one month passes...
There's the return of trivia on Wed 1/4:

http://magneticbrooklyn.com/calendar.php

I'd float next Friday's live-band karaoke, but I'd need more time to rehearse "Dead Flowers."

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Friday, 23 December 2005 18:48 (eighteen years ago) link

I might be up for the trivia night on 1/4!

Hey, so, it looks like my Carroll Gardens sublet is going to end in March and I'll get to move for the 7th time in three years (it might be a new world record!). So, looking for a new place, I ask my brethren how they feel about Fort Greene? It's still only a 20 minute walk away from school and I think the prices are pretty good. Downside is no easy access to subways in the city, but I could deal with that. But, I've never been there, and have no idea how livable the area is.... Should I bother exploring?

Of course, a nice studio in Brooklyn Heights or Cobble Hill would be nice too.... Maybe I'll go move in with Heath Ledger and Michelle WIlliams.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Monday, 26 December 2005 02:33 (eighteen years ago) link

i'm down for karaoke or trivia! or both!
