GTA IV $5
Street Fighter IV $10
X-Com complete $3.74
Team Fortress 2 $6.79

Nhex, Tuesday, 29 June 2010 17:36 (thirteen years ago) link

Couldn't resist picking up a copy of GTA IV for $5. Will be interesting to see how it runs and fool around with the video editing thing at the least. Also went for SFIV just to have a copy that I can run maxed - hopefully we can play some games now, Nhex (how is that wrist?).

Still hoping for DOtDs for Borderlands, the last Red Faction, Just Cause 2, and Metro 2033, but yeah, got way too many games to play now anyway.

When you play a game like GTA IV on the PC, how do the controls work?

When you play a game like GTA IV on the PC, how do the controls work?

Keyboard and mouse or if you prefer just plug a controller into your PC (or maybe a bit of both, keyboard and mouse for walking / shooting and a controller for driving / flying).

Jeff LeVine, Tuesday, 29 June 2010 18:07 (thirteen years ago) link

As you might expect, the walking/shooting controls are great on Mouse/Keyboard, but driving and flying handles a lot better on pad. I eventually just went completely over to pad, though - and I'm sure GTA IV has 360 pad support.

Jeff - I'm up for playing sometime on the weekend. Still have problems - pain often flares up randomly, even at rest - but physical therapy has been helping, and I can play games as long as I stay diligent about taking a lot of breaks while keeping playtimes and general computer use in check.

kingfish - Numen is on sale today for $7.50 if you still want to get that

Nhex, Tuesday, 29 June 2010 18:24 (thirteen years ago) link

$5.00 for Red Faction: Guerrilla - one more off my wishlist

Jeff LeVine, Wednesday, 30 June 2010 17:05 (thirteen years ago) link

anyone who hasn't played the void and has 5 bucks to spare should check it out, fucking insane game. you might wanna cheat in the end though and i wouldn't fault you, just ration your cheating to keep it kind of hard.

anyone know anything about flatout? for $2, i might bite, and i definitely will bite on shatter at 2.50.

Quantic Dream, So Hard To Beat (Will M.), Wednesday, 30 June 2010 17:45 (thirteen years ago) link

Also, that THQ Complete Pack is so goddamn tempting... it's like buying Metro 2033 and getting 20 great games for FREE.

Quantic Dream, So Hard To Beat (Will M.), Wednesday, 30 June 2010 17:47 (thirteen years ago) link

buying shatter for 2.50, looks worth it.

$5 torchlight, $7 L4D are nice too for those who haven't gotten them

Jesus Christ, the sales are starting to get abusive. WHY CANT YOU HAPPEN WHEN I'M EMPLOYED DAMMIT

Don Homer (kingfish), Wednesday, 30 June 2010 18:54 (thirteen years ago) link

After hearing some of the soundtrack to Shatter i'm actually kinda tempted to dip on it. Feedback?

Nhex, Thursday, 1 July 2010 02:50 (thirteen years ago) link

it's pretty good

pass le corbusier (s1ocki), Thursday, 1 July 2010 05:13 (thirteen years ago) link

a little floaty with the mouse control, but def worth 2.50

obvious and old and bannable (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 1 July 2010 05:54 (thirteen years ago) link

Thief: Deadly Shadows is $3, Madballs is $1.99, PB Winterbottom is $2.49.

When games start getting cheaper than pints of beer, it's very difficult not to go hog-wild on them.

HOLY SHIT, Tropico 1 & 2 are $3.39! GET THIS

Borderlands for $10! Another one off my list.

Jeff LeVine, Friday, 2 July 2010 17:08 (thirteen years ago) link

been waiting for that one. stoked to try it out.

Quantic Dream, So Hard To Beat (Will M.), Friday, 2 July 2010 17:10 (thirteen years ago) link

steam, i hate you, and i hate myself

Nhex, Friday, 2 July 2010 17:41 (thirteen years ago) link

actually, my computer is just below minimum spec for Borderlands, so crisis averted. even the DLC is on sale for $3.39 each

maybe get at Beat Hazard for $2.50. Saints Row 2 is a good buy at $7.50. Annoyed they didn't discount Bionic Commando Rearmed, though they did discount the new game in a 2-pack with BCR

Nhex, Friday, 2 July 2010 17:53 (thirteen years ago) link

I've read the Saints Row PC port is supposed to be pretty awful (and super demanding & buggy). Just Cause 2 rumored for one of tomorrow's deals. Bionic Commando: Rearmed at $6.69 is still a very good deal - great game.

Jeff LeVine, Friday, 2 July 2010 18:14 (thirteen years ago) link

Performance-wise, it's definitely pretty bad, but my old video card was able to run it playably. Most of the bugs were fixed eventually - the only real one I encountered was late in the game, where I had to skip a cutscene to progress. I dug it so much I was willing to forgive these things, it's really fun. Also, it has pretty well designed drop-in co-op for all story missions and side activities. Definitely worth the price it's at now.

Nhex, Friday, 2 July 2010 18:31 (thirteen years ago) link

borderlands tempting the hell out of me :(

really want a controller, so waiting for 360 drop on gamefly

obvious and old and bannable (forksclovetofu), Friday, 2 July 2010 19:07 (thirteen years ago) link

did they ever fix the GTA4 port? or is it still really buggy

got you all in ♜ ♔ (dyao), Friday, 2 July 2010 19:07 (thirteen years ago) link

I think GTA IV is as fixed up as it's every going to be. I've played three or four hours of it this week and have encountered no real problems & am really enjoying it again. It runs pretty good on my rig (better than the console versions) and looks a little better (more detail, further draw distance, more traffic and hot dog stands, I think). I'm still tweaking stuff, looking for the optimum settings though. Pop in a still an issue at times and detail pop in that shifts a little weirdly sometimes, but not much of a big deal - it's just the engine (not the port) & no AA, which is a bit of a bummer. But walking around the city they created and looking at all the architecture and vistas and signage, traffic and pedestrians, still really blows my mind.

Jeff LeVine, Friday, 2 July 2010 19:25 (thirteen years ago) link

argh, should have picked it up when it was $5 then.

got you all in ♜ ♔ (dyao), Friday, 2 July 2010 19:27 (thirteen years ago) link

It may pop again on the final day, or Christmas will be here again before you know it...

Jeff LeVine, Friday, 2 July 2010 19:32 (thirteen years ago) link

Yeah, I have no doubt it'll go back on sale at some point, considering this is the second time in the last year they've heavily discounted it.

Nhex, Friday, 2 July 2010 19:36 (thirteen years ago) link

I can't decide if $25.00 for Metro 2033 and Just Cause 2 is cheap enough, or if I should hold off for the end of the year, when maybe they'll be $10 each? That was pretty much all I wanted though...

Jeff LeVine, Saturday, 3 July 2010 17:20 (thirteen years ago) link

Last day, they pulled the same trick with the X-mas sale, repeating all the bestselling deals. Including GTA IV, dyao! Finally bit on BCR; will see if my willpower holds out for the rest of the day.

someone was asking about killing floor, which i ranked in the 2009 c&p -- it's back up again so i am not too late to talk about it. it's a lot of fun IF you are playing w/ people you know and learning the gmae together, online with randoms not so much, but yeah. get a ventrilo server going, play it with mates, it's a blast, once you get past the dumb looks/sounds (it's basically nu-metal: the genre: the game, musicwise)

Quantic Dream, So Hard To Beat (Will M.), Monday, 5 July 2010 02:29 (thirteen years ago) link
