"Dandruff" (Virgin Records, 1974) is a rather good record; the only of his I have at the moment, though I oft heard him via Peel sessions and patronage. Oh, and a bit of "Sitting in a Scotch Sitting Room" was used in the first series of "Blue Jam", rather effectively as I do recall.

i'm so surprised this thread wasn't resurrected by hstencil since he kept telling me how much he loved cutler just yesterday.

Something called "An Elpee and Two Epees" just got released. I've ordered it out of curiosity.

I really really want a copy of "Prince Ivor" myself.

did anyone see the doc? there are torrents of it on uknova (thjats how i saw it). it is realyl good actually. a lot of good archive footage from the 60s and 50s i think. nice to talk to lots of people involved although the McCartney/Connolly talking heads were dead tiresome (sample contributions: Macca: "I think some people should just be allowed to follow their own stream", Connolly, "you know, I think comedians are very miserable"...thanks guys, we'll get back to you)

i havent really listened to anything else except him since seeing it. Good Morning... and Beautiful Cosmos are my favourite songs i think

seen this in stores, a compilation of his earliest releases from the early 60's. song titles look great: 'gravity begins at home', 'a cowpuncher and a bird', 'get away from the wall'... anyone heard it?

Velvet Donkey is the one with "Grass" and Frith helping out with the music

I got my copy. I am heartened by the fact that it's not nearly as good as his Ludo & later stuff, i.e. he didn't really bloom until he was well into his 40s.

"Get Away from the Wall" is a wonderful little song, though.

I just bought Dandruff - by god I love this sort of thing. the track "Life In A Scotch Sitting Room" is absolutely hilarious.

In these horrible times I sometimes think that "Beautiful Cosmos" is the loveliest song ever written by anybody.

i have a 20 minute ambient piece by Charles Uzzel Edwards (http://2350.org/pw10/) where he went round to Ivors for afternoon tea (i think charles mum was a friend/neighbour) and he recorded the conversation and placed it in this swirly ambient backing ..

not great .. but i suspect not heard by many IC fans thats for sure

There is a Yahoo group for Ivor who have a blinding collection of Mp3's, radio shows, sessions, interviews. Incase anyone's interested.

Does anyone know the state of Ivor's health, I heard a rumour that he's no longer living in his flat but lives in an old folk's home, can anyone confirm this?

mzui (mzui), Thursday, 21 July 2005 08:05 (eighteen years ago) link

Well, he retired last year. Who knew he'd outlive J.Peel?

His 3 x Virgin albums "Dandruff", "Velvet Donkey" and "Jammy Smears" should be currently available (as mid-lines), as is the new "An Elpee & Two Epees" CD from Decca/Universal. Sadly, I hear his health is not good these days (as per Mr. Pete Brown, the Cream lyricist). Maybe someone should get on Rough Trade's case to re-issue "Gruts", "Prince Ivor" & "Privilege". Who owns them nowadays, anyway? Mr. Cutler is wonderful, I found him about the time Wyatt's "Rock Bottom" came out, remembered him as Buster Bloodvessel from "Magical Mystery Tour"...genius.

You know, I guessed the next time an Ivor thread was to appear here, it would be for 'final' reasons.

Cheered that it's not so.

Privilege is great. A really good collection.

Mentioned upthread but worth repeating - It's a faff but if you can be bothered to join up, this...

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ivor-list/

Is a good group with lots of music on it. If Ambrose is still keeping tabs on this thread I'm pretty sure they've got the Prince Ivor "opera" on there.

Also I notice in Fopp (for UK readers) they've got a couple of his CDs for a fiver each. Worth every penny.

My fav song is "Shoplifters" from Ludo (1967)
