CHICAGO > CHICAGO > CHICAGO
WTF? I can see where you MIGHT put "CHICAGO" before "CHICAGO" but putting "CHICAGO" at the front is just totally RONG!

― HI DERE, Tuesday, 12 February 2008 22:01 (sixteen years ago) link
Also I think "25 Or 6 To 4" is on all of their albums.
― HI DERE, Tuesday, 12 February 2008 22:02 (sixteen years ago) link

It's been pretty much downhill since CHICAGO.
― HI DERE, Tuesday, 12 February 2008 22:04 (sixteen years ago) link
CHICAGO was a surprisingly decent comeback after the disappointments of CHICAGO and CHICAGO though.

― Noodle Vague, Tuesday, 12 February 2008 22:17 (sixteen years ago) link
But out of the ones I have heard, I'd probably vote CHICAGO.

Try CHICAGO
― Pleasant Plains, Tuesday, 12 February 2008 22:24 (sixteen years ago) link
The canonical choice is usually CHICAGO, but personally I prefer CHICAGO. Or maybe CHICAGO.
― Noodle Vague, Tuesday, 12 February 2008 22:24 (sixteen years ago) link
Edd's also right about the "Chicago" album being way way way too long. And I get the idea he likes "Chicago" (which to me just seems marginally sprightly but forgettably rote, like the album "Chicago") more than I do. I guess my big problem with Cetera, just like my big problem with lots of "Chicago" (and maybe "Chicago", and "Chicago", and certain old Chicago classics people seem to love more than me) is that I don't hear enough music in his music -- he acts like the singing and tunes and lyrics will carry the songs on their own, and they're almost never interesting enough. (Obviously, with Chicago at least, there have been exceptions -- most notably "Chicago". But they're pretty rare, I think.) On "Chicago", there's one cut where he tries to rock out, and good for him for trying, I guess, but it comes out really stiff, and the jam never comes close to drawing me in. I do hope that "Chicago" and "Chicago" get to be released before the cycle is over, though. (Oh yeah, there's another album called "Chicago" which I keep hearing as "Chicago" which would possibly make it an accidental UK grime reference. Though of course it doesn't sound grimey enough.)
Speaking of Chicago, these are all their albums that have been on the chart in Billboard that I think I might have liked. I should find time to figure out how much:
"Chicago" "Chicago" "Chicago" "Chicago" "Chicago" "Chicago" "Chicago" "Chicago" "Chicago" "Chicago"
Albums I haven't heard, but I'm curious about, judging from their names: "Chicago", "Chicago", "Chicago", "Chicago", and "Chicago". Still have also yet to hear "Chicago" and "Chicago".
Finally, I like some of the '80s stuff (""Chicago"), guitar stuff ("Chicago"), soul-ish stuff ("Chicago") and stuff where the guitars groove like Blood Sweat and Tears ("Chicago"). The new stuff, who cares. But it might have enough cuts I like to pass.
No new-album songs on myspace yet, but still:

The outtakes from Chicago are actually better than the tracks they ended up releasing on Chicago. (Fortunately, said outtakes are compiled on Chicago.)

first album is called "Chicago Transit Authority," and it's pretty frickin' good, no joke. "Chicago II" also worth the time, even if the lyrics start to get a little meh. EVERY OTHER CHICAGO ALBUM IS TOTALLY INDEFENSIBLE.

Favorite piece of Chicago trivia: They started doing their double albums -- triple if you count the live one -- and multiple-movement suites as a James William Guercio-masterminded plot to get additional songwriting royalties for the band from Columbia. Once record companies decided to only pay ten royalties per record, they immediately went to ten tracks on the next album (Chicago V) and only did one more double album ever.

LMAO this was hilarious.
Also, I hate this band. There's maybe an LP's worth of stuff I can stand and even then only a couple of songs that I'd ever want to put on myself (like "25 or 6 to 4" even though there's an elephantine quality to the horn charts and melody that keep me from completely enjoying it).
